Hey all you Bratty Babes!
I'm embarking on a new venture with my writing--Kindle Vella! What is Kindle Vella exactly? It's a serialized story platform on Amazon, one episode at a time! The first three are free, then you can unlock additional episodes using tokens. This is new for me, so there may be some growing pains. I will continue releasing my eBooks via Kindle as well, so Vella won't be the only platform where you can access my work.
I hope you are all doing well, and would love your feedback on my new venture! My story on Vella, Daddy's Little Subordinate, follows Brad and Dina, and their interesting dynamic as they navigate the work place. He might be her asshole boss, but Dina sees beneath the surface. There's something about his dominance and correction that extends beyond their professional relationship.
Hope to hear from you soon!
much love to you all,
Stella Shelton
Clacking away at the keyboard, my eyes strained to keep focused on the illuminated screen. There was just one more hour before my day was over. It wasn't my idea of a dream job, but working as a worker's compensation adjuster paid the bills anyhow. Not to mention it was somewhat rewarding. When people got injured at work, I was the girl they called, and my bright voice gave them just the right amount of reassurance that everything was going to be okay. My co-workers called me Sunshine because I was always good at lifting everyone's spirits. What they didn't know, was that my past had been colored with so many disappointments. I wanted to be a bright spot in a bad day because I knew exactly what it was like to have one. Hoping that the rest of my afternoon would free of distractions, I did my best to fly under the radar. Unfortunately, my boss had noticed me anyway.
His warm energy ran through me as I observed him peering at me from my peripheral vision. Brad wasn't the nicest guy in the world. Often walking around with his eyebrows furrowed and chip on his shoulder, he would spend a lot of time nitpicking our work. To say I was tired of it was an understatement, but I didn't let his bad attitude get to me. It was abundantly clear that he just needed a little Sunshine in his life. Keeping my eyes focused on the screen, and my fingers busy typing, I turned up the corners of my lips.
"What's up, Brad?" I asked, my voice going up an octave in normal fashion.
"Can you join me for a quick meeting, Dina. I need to talk to you," said Brad.
His voice was monotone--his blue eyes razor sharp and focused in my direction.
My stomach fluttered, but I couldn't quite discern the feeling. Was I excited, anxious, or a little of both? Brad was an attractive man, but I didn't like him. Did I?
"Sure," I chirped, standing up.
Brad gestured for me to walk in front of him, and secretly I wondered if it was because he wanted to look at my ass. He'd never been inappropriate or anything like that. It just seemed like everything in his world revolved around work. Sometimes I wondered if he even had a pulse, much less a sex drive. The cool air sent prickled goosebumps across my skin as I sat opposite of Brad in the conference room. He had a thick stack of papers attached to a clipboard, that he sat in front of him. Interlacing his fingers together, he placed them over the papers and leaned forward. The gaze of his blue eyes through the dark rimmed glasses rendered me speechless. I held my breath while I anticipated his words.
"Dina, I called you in here today because I noticed you've been a little behind on your tasks. The office average of open tasks per day is around 30. Your open tasks hang out around 70-80," he started.
I tried not to roll her eyes, although I wanted to very badly. He knew I'd been on vacation and was still catching up, but he'd chosen to address this in the very last hour of my work day anyway. What a jerk.
