In a previous article, we have talked about how centrifugal Compressors are very sensitive equipment to changes in the plant operation parameters such as gas composition, inlet pressure, and temperature, or the resistance in the discharge system such as the pressure drop in piping or in coolers or the pressure at the downstream system.
All these parameters can significantly affect the compressor's head. Now, based on the compressor's curve which shows the relationship between the gas flow rate and the compressor's head, we can get the operating point of the compressor. Through this operating point, we can get the outlet pressure, in addition to other parameters such as the motor's driver power, efficiency, and whether the compressor is in surge on in stonewall regions.
In addition to the above, the compressor's efficiency is a significant factor to consider when purchasing the compressor. This is because the efficiency shall significantly affect the compressor's required power, which is commonly very high. That's why the change in the efficiency can dramatically affect the running cost of the compressor. In addition, a low efficiency shall yield a larger discharge temperature, which can be detrimental to the compressor and to the downstream equipment

In addition to the above, we have also simulated a multi-stage compressor to see how the important parameters that we should take into consideration when designing the multistage compressors such as interstage temperatures, balancing between the compression ratio and the required driver power of each stage.
