Read Wild Love!

How about a sneak peek...

Here’s a little look at the first chapter of Wild Love—Wine and Cry.

Paula walks over to me and wraps me in a hug. “How’s my girl?”
“Good. Finally settled. I unpacked the last box.”
She laughs as she lets me go and walks over to the picture on the wall. “I don’t know how… but I know this has to do with him.”
Ugh. She’s too perceptive.
“What makes you say that?” I ask, a mix of amused and trying to play it off.
She turns back to me, that motherly gaze sweeping over me. “Because it was in the last box you unpacked. And like anyone who’s afraid to believe in the depth of something—of its intrinsic importance to their life—you hid it away. It’s a part of you that you’re not ready to let go of, but you’re afraid to let yourself hope for it. Believe it was real. Unpacking that final box means you’re settled here, and maybe you’re finally ready to admit part of why you came back was for him.”
I stare at her, gut burning over how right she is. “I haven’t had enough wine for this conversation.”
She grins at me. “Pop the bottle. If I get you a little wine-drunk, maybe I can get you to call him.”
I sigh heavily as she walks past me toward the kitchen.
Amy was right. This is going to be trouble.

“I hate you,” I mutter, more into my glass of wine than at Paula.
Maybe I hate myself a little too because I said she could pick the movie tonight, and what are we watching? Titanic.
I’ve already cried twice, and now more tears are coming.
This is one of my favorite movies, but I can’t just put it on in the background and hang out. You hit a certain point, and you have to sit down and bawl.
“I knew that picture was about him.”
“I’m not crying because of him. I’m crying because the movie is sad.”
She snaps her fingers, the wine in her glass sloshing as she sets it down on the table. Paula is about ten years younger than my mom, in her late forties, with endless curves and sass that never quits.
“That’s it, isn’t it? Rose is about to let Jack go. And you had to let your Jack go. Oh my gosh. Tell me he called you Rose. Because he knew it was your favorite movie.” She waves a hand. “Or because you’re beautiful but you can be prickly too.”
“He didn’t call me Rose,” I yell, throwing my hand up.
I set my wineglass down on the side table, tucking my knees up to my chest. Because maybe a tiny part of what she said was right. I don’t want to watch them say goodbye. Especially when she could’ve saved him.
“Ah. Now it all makes sense. You called him Jack, didn’t you?”
I don’t answer, my mind drifting back to that moment. My memory of his voice is probably off now. A memory of a memory of a memory of it. But I still replay it as I remember it.

If you’ve read Forever Love, you already know the origin story of the nickname, and if you haven’t… it’s time to dive into Wild Love and find out. 💜
