Last week we hit a common but painful problem while setting up a Meta ad. The account would not accept a payment method, and the business verification was stuck in review. These issues stall campaigns and waste time. Here is what usually causes them and exactly what to do.
First, check permissions and ownership. The most common setup snag is missing or wrong access. Make sure your Business Manager owns the ad account and that you have the correct role (Admin) on both the ad account and the Facebook Page. If you try to create or manage an ad account from the wrong business or without proper roles, Meta blocks actions. Fix: confirm the ad account is in the your Business Suite and add your team as admin.
Second, business verification can hold everything up. If the your business is not verified, some features are restricted. Meta often requires clear company documents and matching information during verification. Fix: submit the correct business documents, make sure the company name and address match official records, and avoid resubmitting incorrect files (it slows the process). If verification fails, follow the verification help steps in Business Manager.
Third, payment and billing issues are frequent. Cards can be rejected for reasons like mismatched address, unsupported card type, or a temporary payment hold on the account. If billing fails, Meta may pause the ad account. Fix: clear any outstanding balance, use a trusted business card, try adding the payment method from the ad account’s billing section (not from the personal profile), and don’t assume the first card will work, have a backup. If the account is disabled for payment, follow Meta billing steps to resolve it.
If you want the full checklist on how to troubleshoot your ad account as a downloadable doc or need a quick audit of a stuck account, join our Growth Marketing community and drop “AD AUDIT” in the group and we’ll send it to your WhatsApp directly.
