Dear reader,

Back in 2017, we here in the Treasure Valley were hit by a ferocious series of winter storms which we all lovingly dubbed "Snowmageddon" (or the "Snowpocalypse" if you were in Canyon County).

With this year shaping up to be a potential Snowmageddon part 2, it's gotten me thinking about crazy weather in fantasy.

There's of course the decade-long winters from A Song of Ice and Fire, and the sweltering touch of the Dark One in The Wheel of Time. Brando Sando then hit us with the epic Highstorms of Roshar and the red skies and Ashmounts of Scadrial. More recently, Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries rattled me to the core with her terrifying blizzard fae...

...and I'm certain I'm forgetting some excellent others.

So, I turn to you. What are your favorite fantasy storms/weather patterns? Throw out some recommendations to see us all through the bleak midwinter.

In other exciting news, I'm fairly certain I have an official date for my next series of writing workshops at The Cabin!

Starting on March 27th, I'll be doing a six-week course on plotting, outlining, and crafting your first novel. We'll cover story structure, characterization, dialogue, world-building: all the good stuff.

The last course sold out fairly quickly, so if you're interested, keep an eye out for the upcoming posting on The Cabin's website.
