Dear reader,
Do books ever scare you?
In honor of Halloween, I've been pondering this question. Do certain types of media frighten you more than others? Books? Movies? Podcasts? Video games? The scariest medium seems to be unique to each person I've talked to.
For example, I've met tons of people who can handle scary movies, but scary videos games? They scream and fling the controller at the screen. I, however, am the opposite. Movies scare me way more because I'm not in control of the situation. I can't stop the stupid character from opening the stupid door and walking into the stupid basement.
Stupid character...
And what about books? Have you ever had a good horror novel really freak you out? For me, I can only think of two: The Road, by Cormac McCarthy and The Ruins, by Scott Smith. In both cases it was probably because I stayed up all night bingeing the book until I was delirious with exhaustion-induced hallucinations.
Or perhaps "T. R." titles are just especially spooky. Yeah, It's probably the titles.
Either way, I sure love a good creepy scene in a spooky book. Email me some of your all-time favorite scary stories and I'll gratefully add them to my TBR pile.
