Progress!

I'll start with the easy stuff first. I think I'm getting my groove back, and yes I know that is the name of a movie, but it's accurate. I wrote over five thousand on Faded Luck last week and I'm up to over nine thousand words for March. I'm hoping by the end of today to have it well over 10k. Which means the story is finally coming together. I'll warn you that the editing will be rough, but the story itself is already over 90k and I'm not even at the climax yet. This is going to be quite the ride.

As to the looking up, mom is getting better. She still has memory issues but she is following story lines and can do puzzles again. She is tracking much better and can get her own meals now. That is a huge relief for me and makes it easier for all of us. We still can't leave her alone in the house, but she doesn't need anyone hovering anymore.

So I'm hoping when it warms up (this weekend it got into the 20s and killed my plum blossoms) that we can get some plants going in the green house. I have about $200 worth of seeds on order and we shall be planting like crazy. But now she'll be able to tell me what to do. Grins. I really don't like gardening, but I love fresh vegetables.

Dragoncon has invited me back, so I will be there in September which will be fun. Other than that I only have a speaking engagement in Atlanta in April and then Libertycon in June. This should give me lots of time to write and maybe get the next book in the series done - AFTER Faded Luck

That is it for me. Obviously I need to get to typing. But until then take a look at these novels, you might find something to distract you until Faded Luck is out.

The Tree

The tree stood in the clearing, birds soared, winds whipped around. The wind brought coolness. The birds brought news. The grasses chattered about squirrels. The sun burst through the clouds bringing energy and heat.

But nothing changed.

The ground trembled and the birds fell silent. The wind rose in a howling fury the tree had never experienced. The sun faded, clouds blocking it's rays. The grasses curled in fear shouting a warning.

But nothing changed.

The wind fell away, not even dust drifted. The grasses pulled water from the ground and reached for the sun. The sun hid behind the moon and refused to shine. The birds chattered and swooped and pretended they didn't care.

But nothing changed.

The tree waited, leaves full, nuts ready to fall. It listened, but it didn't know for what. It hoped, but it couldn't remember why. It ignored the words of the wind and the grass and the birds, but didn't have better ones.

And nothing changed.

The nuts fell one by one. The squirrels, birds, insects, and others came to claim the bounty. The wind blustered through its branches, knocking more down. The grass turned brown and threw seeds everywhere.

And someone came.

A voice from so long ago. The one that had planted the seed of this tree. The one that sat and talked to it. The one that told stories that the tree remembered the sound but not the words. Remembered the love.

"I came to say goodbye."

The tree changed.

I will be working on Faded Luck the rest of the weekend, so fingers crossed I get a ton done.
