Saying Goodbye

It will be okay.

Right now I am in Sarasota, Florida taking care of my parents remains. The odds are while this is sending I will be watching military honors for my dad from the Air Force. We decided to inter them together and they will be in a coral formation in the ocean. They both loved to scuba dive and it seemed a fitting place for their final rest.

Someday their reef should look like this-

I figure Sunday I shall be toasting my parents so we bought a nice bottle of whiskey (12 year Highland Viking Honor) and talking about them.

But with this it is mostly over. The reef will be placed on Monday, then Tuesday I come home and get back to work - well for 1 day then I'm off to Libertycon, but that is expected.

Puppet Master launched on Friday and it is going okay. Creating another entire set of concerns, but then who would I be if I didn't stress about stuff. Now I just need to get my fingers in gear.

Book Recommendations!

This is a free short story and the part of the blurb that caught my attention was this: "The Empire killed his ma, and that means only one thing. He would have to kill the Emperor." I mean I can't really disagree with the philosophy. Take a look at Distant Shadow and the world of the Empire.

And then in the theme of looking at people in cloaks from the back, we have Cave of Time - where a plague has taken magic away. Can one boy change anything or everything? This is also free, so grab it now.

Keep Moving

You only experience something once, so hang on to every moment, both good and bad.

I didn't know who said the words but they had lingered in my mind over the years. Trying to live in the moment, yet prepare for the future, and learn from the past was difficult. Especially when some moments sucked.

I sat on my deck staring at the sunset. The colors of purple, pink, and orange coated the sky, mocking me in my grief.

It would be easier if I could cry.

The thought didn't help. Nor did the booze, or the friends, or the distractions. The grief sat there looming over me, shadowing everything I thought or did.

"It's okay, you know."

I looked up to see a loved one walk out on the deck, handing me some tea.

"What is?" I took the tea and settled back.

"Being human."

That startled a laugh out of me. "No it isn't we don't allow that anymore," I said with assurance. "Work says you get three days to wrap up all your feelings. Business want you to tell them instantly yet won't do anything without death certificates, and no one knows what to say to you, especially when you seem to be fine."

"That is the key word though—seem. You aren't fine, none of us are really. So what are you going to do about it?"

The words whispered in my mind and I looked up, they had vanished back into the hole in my heart. I sipped the tea I didn't remember making.

"I'm going to keep moving, and hope I get it all done before I die. I suspect that will be when I finally get to grieve."

My words echoed and I fought back a tear. I had to keep moving.

A repeat yes, but my well is a bit shallow today. I'll be back in force in two weeks.
