New year, new goals

So 2022 is over. I'm oddly glad, as yesterday I got news yet another friend died. For me the year seemed to have been full of endings. But I think 2023 will be beginnings, at least that is my goal.

My last day of work is 13 days from now. I have a tattoo scheduled on Jan 15th, and I have so much work to do. My to do list in January is about 64 items long. Some may take me days, others minutes, but either way I can't wait to get started.

I have so many goals for 2023 and I'm struggling to be positive and believe I can do them all. The paperwork involved in my mothers estate will take another few weeks, because bureaucracy - ugh. But already life is settling down into new patterns and habits, now to make them all positive and healthy.

My goals for 2023:

  • Prioritize my mental and physical health (this means yoga and more being nice to my self).
  • Unbalanced Luck
  • Balanced Luck
  • Puppet Master - Nyc & Stel
  • Aria of Hope
  • Rogue Mage Hunters: Book 1 (this is a Scott Randolph story, we'll see how writing a thriller works in the Ternion Universe. It should be about 20 years before Cori is born)
  • At least 3 short stories
  • Finish my fanfiction series.

I'll probably only manage to publish two of them next year for various reasons, but I'm hoping to have a bunch ready to go near the end of the year. My social media presence should increase as I'll have more time. But mostly I'm going to write and do cons - I'll update my con schedule below.

This story maybe a bit MarySue, though I don't have a mountain, but from me to you here is to a wonderful start to 2023. May it be full of joy and prosperity for everyone.

New Year's Day

Sara sat on the top of the mountain, staring up at the sky. There was no moon, but the stars lit up the heavens and cast a cool radiance that felt almost holy or magical or something she didn't have a name for.

She had hiked for two days, alone, up the mountain. The bustle of the city, the noise, the sheer press of people had worn her emotions thin. The peaceful quiet of nature called to her, healed something deep inside she hadn't realized was injured.

The journal lay in her lap unopened as the wind tangled her hair and reddened her cheeks. Sara just smiled looking at the stars. The last year had been exhausting. Sometimes just being human seemed almost too much to bear. But up here, looking at the universe laid out before her, she let go.

"I'm so tired, there are so many times I almost gave up. I've lost friends, family, and seen so much grief that I can't even grieve any more." The wind stole her words so fast there wasn't even an echo of them, but she needed to say it, make it real. "But there has been so much joy, love, friends, good things that it creates a balance. I'm not giving up because I've survived everything so far, and there is still so much left to see."

The wind died down and her last words circled around her.

Tears wet her cheeks but from the wind or her emotions she didn't know.

"This year I am going to focus on loving me, on being the best I can be, on showing others that I care, and above all remembering this." Sara smiled up at the universe looking down on her. "That there is so much wonder out there and I refuse to leave any sooner than I have to."

Sara leaned back the journal in her hand and waited for the sun to come up on New Year's Day. She would start this year with the knowledge that dawn always comes and brought with it another chance for everything.

Now on to creating the life I want.
