I'm in Virginia!!

The first convention of my year is Mysticon in Roanoke Virginia. It's been a long time since I've been here, but I have faith it's been a blast. I hope you got to come see me, but I know I'm looking forward to meeting Steve Barnes and getting to see Allen Wold again. I'll also get to see some old author buddies (Stuart Jaffe, Darin Kennedy, and Wayland Smith I'm looking at you). But there are a bunch of people I've never met before so I'm counting on my co-author Doug Burbey to be the extrovert he is and talk to them and by extension introduce us.

Speaking of Cons, I'm the Guest of Honor at Conpossible, in Duluth Georgia. I'm so excited and honored to be the GoH and can't wait to see everyone. I'll be there all weekend, so if you are local to Atlanta come see me!

Otherwise I have COVERS!!!! Omg, I'm so excited to show you this gorgeous cover for Relics!!!!

I'm working on the pre-orders and putting it up in my store, so hopefully by the next newsletter that will be all done, and I'll have book 2 completed and edited, so you can see that cover too. I'm so excited for you to get to see this new trilogy.

Weekly Micro Story

Ripple Effect

He stood blocking my way, sword radiating light, power, and contempt. The sword emitted a sickly light that had nothing clean about it. Behind me the sacred portal floated, broken into pieces.

The sight broke me the way nothing else had, not the death of my wife and children, not the destruction of my land. This was the end for everyone. Without the sacred portal our gods couldn't come to us. We had no where to go when age or sickness took our vitality. We were isolated in the cosmos.

"What have you done?" I sank to my knees in the mud, uncaring of the rain pelting me, each strike penance for my failure.

"Broke the shackles that held you down." His voice was strange, accented in a way I did not recognize. But it did not matter.

"No, you have cut us off. Now we have no gods," I cried, covering my face in my hands, in terror, in shame, in piety to those I would never meet.

A sound like stones rubbing together came from him. "Look at me," he demanded and I lifted eyes too dry to cry up to my people's scourge. "You never had gods. All I did was remove your chains. Someday this story will be different. It will be your day of salvation, not destruction. I hope you live long enough to see it."

With that said he strode back through the destruction he had created, my destroyed town, my dead family, our altar in ruins.

All I could do was turn back to the portal and vow someday I would repair our path to the gods and destroy that monster. The words echoed in my head and I felt a wash of power.

The gods still bless me. I will prove my loyalty.

I rose and picked up my sword.
