Barreling toward Christmas
Dec 14, 2025 5:01 pm
So little time left!
I'm sure like most of us, I'm watching the days fly by without seeing my to do list drop dramatically. But I'm working on getting stories done and setting up things for next year. I'll talk more about that after Christmas.
I have all my shopping done, though I still need to buy a card and wrap, but that is my goal this weekend. I should also be able to finish setting up my tree. It's purple!!! Lol, one of my friends had an purple pre-lighted fake tree and gave it to me. So that is my goal this weekend to get it decorated and all the presents wrapped and under it. I should be able to pull it off. Only one present hasn't arrived but it should be here before Christmas. I hope.

Reality
"You do realize this means none of this is real," I said my voice so calm it scared me. Another chunk of earth fell away into the void beneath our feet. Watching the earth around me dissolve should have had me on the ground gibbering in terror. But it was all removed, as if I was looking at something that had happened long ago. Not the dissolution of everything I'd ever know at this very moment.
"Why do you say that?"
I turned to look at the large red fox standing next me, its English clear and accented.
"You speaking English is a good sign. Besides the fact that physics doesn't work like that," I said waving my hand at the spectacle before us.
"And you are positive that everything you know is accurate and might not have exceptions or laws that supersede it?"
That made me pause. There always seemed to be exceptions to everything. Objects fell at the same rate, but wind resistance would change that. Animals couldn't talk, but parrots, ravens, even some dogs had been known to use sounds that mimicked words and use them correctly. I'd even seen a proof where if a=1 and b=1 you could prove that a<> b.
"No?" My assurance had fled and with it the wall of numbness to everything I saw. My mouth went dry even as my eyes began to water as terror flooded me.
"Then perhaps you should run, before you verify if falling into the abyss will kill you." With that the fox sprang from the parapet we stood on, to a floating rock, then to another hoping toward where the land remained stationary.
"Oh shit," I muttered and began to run.

Yeah no clue, my brain. But still that has possibilities.
