Con Season Has Started

But seriously body, behave!

I'm old, I know I'm old. But why do I have an ear infection? I tell you trying to write while your right ear is throbbing and is oddly heavy is difficult. It doesn't really hurt, I mean the occasional stab, but mostly it is just clogged and heavy. I mean really, an ear infection? Oh well. At least I still have words coming and a few stories are about to wrap up.

My Victorian UF tiology is twisting and I can see them as the beginning of a series, but don't quote me on that. But I tell you the 1850s are fascinating what was going on and how society was changing and now I'm adding magic. It is just fun. I can't wait for you to see these.

Weekly Micro Story

MirrorDopple

The new game was all the rage and I grinned as I shut my door and settled down to play. My parents were gone for the weekend, all my homework was done, my last day of work had been yesterday and this was the last weekend I had before all the graduation stuff kicked in. Slipping on my VR headset I got ready.

"Entering MirrorDopple," a voice said as the game loaded.

I squeed in glee as the world materialized around me. The reviews hadn't lied. The simulation of it was almost indistinguishable from reality. Except my reality didn't have talking cats, dragons, and clothes that were so cool. I also wasn't as pretty as I was here.

My alarm went off distantly and I sighed. While I had the weekend too myself I sitll needed to make some food and do some chores really quick. Besides it would give the headset time to charge. I head back to my virtual load location and stood there for a moment admiring my avatar. It looked like me, but fitter, prettier, smarter, all the things I'd never be.

With a mental wave away of that thought I reached for the disconnect when the mirror image shimmered and looked at me, not a reflection but at me.

"Tori Canton. Are you enjoying the MirrorDopple world?"

I blinked then it clicked. It must be an AI to make sure we were enjoying it. "Sure. I wish I could stay here.

"Very well." The me in the mirror started to dissolve. "Personality transfer initiated."

"What?" The simulation fuzzed, then there was the mirror image looking at me.

"Enjoy Mirrordopple. I will be Tori Canton." With that the image disappeared.

"Weird." I said and reached for the disconnect. It wasn't there there. I tried to remove the headset, but while my virtual arms lifted, there was no sensation from my body. My body, where was it? It took an hour of frantic attempts before I accepted the truth.

I was in the game. I would always be in the game.

The worst part? I wasn't that upset.

I might be watching Three Body Problem and it is sinking into my mind.
