Writing like the wind

and dreading editing.

Everyone tells me that editing just makes your book better and I try to believe it, but I swear all I see is "i suck" in every red mark. That being said I'm having to do a lot more discovery writing than I'm used to (you learn everything after about book 3 in regards to your characters). And my alpha reader (thanks Laila) has pointed out some major flaws - that I do know how to fix, so I'll probably spend a good chunk of Monday fixing them so they resonate through the series correctly.

I have a new cozy sci-fi series I'm working on that I'll be excited to share. Give me a month or two and I should have some more information to share on that front. But There should be new books coming this year, at least four I'm hoping. It would be easier if I didn't write such huge stories. Already the epic fantasy is at 55k and I just hit the first turning point, but like I said lots of edits. Le sigh.

Otherwise I'm doing a dry January to try and start off a bit healthier. I've got my walking up to 45 minutes during the week and I'm trying a new meal plan for lunches. I'll let you know how it goes.

Rage

Tiena looked at the ravages of her home. Her husband dead, her children, her mother, even the family goat lay on the front entrance with their throats slashed.

It hurt so bad that she couldn't speak, she looked up at the sky and screamed. A long, sharp wail of anger and agony. For a brief moment she tried to lie to herself, tell herself she didn't know why they were dead. Why someone would kill them.

But she knew. She'd tried so hard to be a force of good in her kingdom. Tried to show that you could make a difference by being charitable and kind. By letting the evil acts of others not affect her. To be an example to her family, to her community that those with power could be good people. She'd argued for softer punishments when people were stealing food, as no one should go hungry. She'd tried, desperate to prove that even one good person could make a difference.

"I guess I was wrong," she said. Though to her gods, herself, or her family, she couldn't have said. "The only thing that matters is ruthlessness and a willingness to use power. Sorry father I should have listened."

Over fifteen years of trying to be a good person, a good wife and mother, all of it was gone.

"So be it."

She clenched her hands and fire sprang out, running up her arms, as her hair became a corona of flames. Two flame golems pulled up out of the earth next to her, radiating heat and menace.

"They did what even my father couldn't do, they've made me quit caring. So be it. You respect power? I have lots." The smile that emerged had only cruelty in it as she turned and headed toward the castle.
