T-Day Laziness

imageI'm exhausted.

Here in the United States Thanksgiving is approaching. The story behind this holiday is problematic and full of differing view points. For me it is a day off of work. Wait scratch that - it is a day of cleaning, cooking, serving, and crossing fingers that I didn't really screw up something.

I don't wanna. I'm tired, grumpy, and while I like the food the idea of spending a day trying to cook is just not high on my list. Originally we were supposed to go over to a friends for Thanksgiving, but since my mother still isn't walking easily that plan got scrapped.

Let's go back to lazy. I don't wanna. So... I'm going to try an experiment and if it goes sideways, well, we will order pizza. I have chicken thighs and a fresh pineapple. That is getting thrown in the crockpot with some seasoning and I have mac and cheese for a side dish. I'll let you know how it comes out. Either way I'm going to spend the day playing Diablo and maybe editing. Maybe.

Overall I'm suffering from constant distractions and trying to write. But there should be some fun stuff coming in the next few weeks. Don't forget to share my books with friends and family (they make great Christmas presents ~shameless plug~)

Enjoy your holiday week if in America, otherwise Christmas is coming. To tide you over here is a new microstory. And yes this would make a fascinating sci-fi novel.

Cyber

Matya stretched as the cybernetic implants synced and aligned with her nervous system. Five years of saving every credit and finally she bought the cyber. Not top of the line, but enough to get her a better job and a better life. You could always upgrade later.

"Keep stretching. You need to go through every possible range of motion while they're still interfacing with you. If you don't you may find certain movements harder." The uncaring implant tech rattled this off without looking up from his diagnostics.

With an acknowledging nod, uncaring of her nudity, Matya slipped off the table and started to stretch and move, mimicking the long ago exercises taught in primary school. Touching toes, squatting, splits, reaching for the sky, and even a back bend. All of it seemed easier than she remembered, but then the last time she'd tried this she had been ten? A year before the T'soit ushered Earth into a new level of galactic interaction.

A level where humans were the least equipped to compete.

"I see you're missing a kidney. For an extra 500 credits I can update the cyber to accommodate that."

Matya jerked her head up. That was part of how she paid for the equipment. Cyber would balance it out? She flicked her eyes to activate her net interface. She had the money barely. It would put her needing a job immediately, but she could manage for a week, maybe two since her rent was paid up.

"Do it." Another flick and the money was deposited.

"Sit. This will hurt, but only for a minute."

Matya slid back onto the table, and rode out the stab of pain. Anything was worth it to get out of this backwater solar system and humans couldn't succeed out there without cyber.

All my little stories. Never enough time or engery.
