Failure is learning.

As I'm sure you know the Kickstarter for Noble's Luck failed to fund. I'm sad, a bit frustrated, but I learned a lot during the process and I'm sure my next one will be better. It does mean the books won't be out by Christmas though. I'm working on a launch plan and with luck (see what I did) they will either start coming out at the beginning of January or February. I'm tentatively planning on launching one every two weeks.

Yes, I'm bummed, but it will make December a bit more relaxing for me, so that is a good aspect. But, I did promise people some really great prices on the add-ons. So if you wanted to get them at a great price, this is your chance as I'll be raising the prices back to what they were on Wednesday.

Other than that, I am still working on the epic fantasy. I thought it was going to be about 170k, but at the rate it is going I'm suspecting about 200k. We'll see, but either way you'll have a long read with no humans, elves, or dwarfs. It is an epic fantasy set on a world nothing like ours where the people that were created were further modified by their gods

My goal is to finish the epic, get my 2025 plan in place and get you so many books next year.

Symbols

My lips cracked as I kept moving, licking them in a vain attempt to stop cracking or maybe to get the blood that leaked out. Water had run out the day before and the thought about giving up, turning around, pounded with my heart in my brain.

The elders would be watching me, ready to rescue me if I fell or turned back, but in many ways, that rescue would be the same as dying. My life would be routed to that of a servant, where everyone would have power over you. I kept moving, one food in front of the other, though I wondered how others had come back with gifts. Sherya, who cried if she stubbed her toe. Or Joyr who took the easy way every time.

Whining made it easier it keep walking as then I wasn't thinking about my thirst, exhaustion, or the heat beating down on me. If they could make it, I could make it. I could. Maybe if I kept telling myself that, I would believe it.

The constant stream of internal chatter distracted me to the point that when I looked up I stumbled to a halt. Ahead of me, on the stone wall that few passed, burned a symbol. Red light streamed from it as if lit by a thousand torches.

My heart seized as I recognized the symbol. If I touched it I would gain that power, that role. But did I want it? For a long time I stood there unable to move, trying to decide if being a servant would be better.

No, no it wouldn't.

With an internal sigh that crushed the previous whining, I reached out and the power swarmed through me, changing me, branding me.

When it was done I turned, no longer tired, thirsty, or jealous. My new responsibility weighed on me more than my petty jealousy ever could have. The elders stepped out, faces somber, not excited or joyful the way most would have been. I knew what this meant and so did they.

"Congratulations," said the oldest, the one who had guided us for years. "Quarters are being prepared for you, Warmaster."

The title burned the way the symbol had. For it meant war was coming and my gift, my curse, was to lead us through it. Maybe a servant would have been better, but then we would not know to prepare.
