Ack! Christmas Already?

I really enjoy working from home, but there are some disadvantages. It means to run any errands I HAVE TO LEAVE THE HOUSE. You don't understand, I like my house. I hide in it well, there are games, books, computers, cats. Why would I voluntarily leave? Unless I'm about to go on a murder spree, then occasionally I sneak out.

What I'm trying to say is that normally (you know pre-2020) I'd run an errand on my way home. Just a little bit out of the way and BOOM that errand was done. Now? I have to put on clothes and plan stuff. Which means it is the weekend before Christmas (time dilation I swear) and I still need to go run around to get a few things completed. And my day job wants me back in the office one day a week starting in January. This is creating conflict. There is the 3 hour commute and mom being alone for about 4 hours and wearing a mask in my cube alone and time by myself and getting to see co-workers. Needless to say it is complicated. Oh well. I shall figure it out.

I finished and submitted the short story for a New Mythology Press anthology, we will see if it is accepted. I'm finishing another one set in the Hit World Universe. This new character is fun. Then I should be able to hit the ground running in January to work on Faded Luck. The question will be how fast can I run/type. Hopefully very fast.

Which means I should get to work. I still have more stuff to do today, plus a business meeting, and a floor to mop. Really how do kitchen floors get so sticky?

Double Check

"You sure this is the right planet?" Tkung stared at his display, antenna twisted around each other. "It has terra-forming possibilities. With enough atmosphere and some water it could be a nice colony."

"Yep. The blue and green one is still developing, but this red one has nice mineral deposits. They won't notice it fragmenting. They're too primitive." The answer from his co-worker Put didn't make Tkung feel any better.

"Still. They might want to terra-form it."

"Oh well. They have other planets. But how many civilizations ever make it out of their solar system? I hear the betting is running 3 to 1453 against. Too bad only those with thousand year life cycles are even playing."

Tkung grunted. While Choriations had life spans up to a thousand years, civilization betting was too long term for them.

"Still seems a shame." Sighing Tkung entered in the coordinates, not noticing the viewer was still focused on the blue planet still. "Everything is programmed. Ready for double check."

"What ever, just another planet," Put said and authorized.

They waited, even their equipment had a slight lag. "Umm… why hasn't that planet disintegrated for mining?" Put finally asked.

"Odd. All the systems are online." Tkung panned through his readouts and froze. "Uh. The bookmakers will string us up."

"Why?"

Without speaking Tkung pulled up the image and the rubble of what had once been a blue and green planet splayed out on the screen. "I told you to double check."

They both gazed at the after effects of a molten core rupturing.

"Oh well. Blow the other one, I'll add on an extra mining crew for that one." Put turned and entered the information.

Tkung muttered as he jabbed at buttons, "Procedures are there for a reason. Double check it, asteroid gas."

"I heard that."

Snickers. Possibly inspired by Douglas Adams. Have a GREAT Christmas/Holiday season. I'm having my father in law over and otherwise staying pretty chill.
