I usually do a book rec post around New Years. I'm a little behind this year. There are so many good ones it will probably have to be a couple different messages. Here we go.

Thriller (guys with guns):

Savage Son by Jack Carr was a fantastic read. Jack's books are very procedural. So if you want to know what kind gas chamber is in the 12 gauge dumping Dragon's Fire into a group of neophyte terrorists, this series is for you. James Reece is a smart, skilled operator that is a true patriot. This is the third book in the series.

This is also a book 3 in a long series. This time, Mark Greaney's Gray Man is in Mexico, trying to get back to the States. He's still on the run from his ex-employer (the CIA) and he's tired of running. When he goes to Mexico to pay his respects to a lost friend, he winds up entangled in Cartel business. As usual, Cort finds himself in the middle of a huge mess only the Gray Man can shoot his way out of.

Indie:

imageThe Diaspora is endless. At least, so they say. Worlds stretch out in all directions, connected by ancient portals built by the long dead ‘Founders’. The portals come to life with a rhythm that seems unknowable by mere mortals, but philosophers believe there is a pattern to it. For with the opening and closing of the way, kingdoms rise and fall in turn.

Vandryn of house Glenclare faces the traitor and murderer of his father. His very imagefreedom and survival is threatened as he finds himself held prisoner. The elf vixen Zylla thinks up a plan to enlist Zan and their legendary father Elleezer to cause trouble for the Melborians. Elleezer the keeper of Shattergar, the emerald eye of Umbaden wields an ancient elven magical artifact. But even with the magical artifact Shattergar is anywhere safe in a land ruled by The Blood Queen? This series is Epic Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery Mild Dark Fantasy with some adult situations.

imageWhen her mother sells her magic to the coven leader, Ella knows her only chance to keep her power is to flee. Too bad they hired the best bounty hunter to drag her back. He’s ruthless, breaks every rule, and always gets the job done. If he catches her, she’ll lose her magic.

Fly off to the world of Finlestia in this epic fantasy story for readers looking for imageadventure, magic, and just plain fun; a tale where friendships must overcome insurmountable odds and remind readers to never lose hope.
