Hello, July!

Hello, my darlings!

Is anyone else somewhat shocked that we're halfway through the year already? I'm not sure where the time has gone, and I'm not pleased. Summer has well and truly set in here, and like so many other places, we're dealing with nasty heat and humidity, which hit far too early in the season. I'm just doing my best to stay cool and keep my patio herb garden alive. On days when it isn't super humid, I'm getting out for morning walks and enjoying the blue skies and green leaves and butterflies or sitting on the patio and reading in the quiet. If you're affected by all this heat, I hope you're staying cool and hydrated! And if you're somewhere it's much cooler, know that I'm jealous!

If you missed last month's Pride Month sales, July is the big Smashwords Summer/Winter sale, so you have another opportunity to pick up my books (and lots of others!) on sale. Links to the books are below.

I was able to attend the Passaic County Book Festival for a while last month. It was a beautiful day—gorgeous weather, except for a breeze that got a little strong and blew over some displays! There were so many authors there and so many readers. I had a wonderful time meeting everyone and talking books—and if you're here because of that event or just new to the newsletter, welcome! I don't have any more in-person scheduled at the moment, but I'll let you as soon as I do.

I'm still working on the next Dragons of Ivria book, To Know a Dragon Spy, and making slow but mostly steady progress. I've mentioned before that long covid has made writing more difficult over the last several months, and I've missed every deadline I've given myself on this book, so I'm hesitant to set another despite my own frustration. I was planning to have it in your hands already, but I will get it to you as soon as I possibly can. Once it's finished, my tentative plan is to write the first book in a new witch series while I doing some planning for the third Dragons of Ivria book (but don't hold me to that!).

This book is utterly delightful so far! Set in a queer-normative historical fantasy world, it brings us a misunderstood fae and a sensitive human forced to work together on an important magical project. I'm listening to the audio, and the narrator is doing a fantastic job.

I recently reread The Brilliant Death, which is a YA gender fluid romantic fantasy with an Italian inspired world, because I realized that I hadn't read the second book in the duology. Reading it again made me remember how much I enjoyed it the first time! I'm reading the second book now in hardcover.
