Welcome back, Peter Berry along with Deb Bunt, and other news from AlzAuthors
Mar 09, 2022 5:16 am
Dear AlzAuthor,
AlzAuthors has featured a new book or blog nearly every week since June of 2016. Sometimes we've been fortunate to post a second book by the same author. This is just such a week, as we welcome back Peter Berry and his fellow bike-riding buddy and editor, Deb Bunt for an encore feature of his new book Walk With Me. This new book is a collection of Peter's poetry, in collaboration with photographer Daniel Ruffles's scenes of the Suffolk countryside,
How did this come about? Deb shares: Over the last two years, Peter has been texting me his thoughts, generally when he was weary and when the dementia was snuggling up next to him for the evening. When Peter sent his thoughts, he did not refine or polish his words, they came from his heart, through his fingers, into the phone, traversed the three miles from his village to my town and landed in my lap. As they vanished for him (as they did the instant they left his fingers), they become my responsibility. I jotted them down for him, acting as his βplug in and save device . . .

On The Podcast: Audio Replay of Love Stories, Keeping Romance Alive in Dementia Care
On February 9th, four of our authors currently caring for a spouse or partner with dementia came together for an AlzAuthors Live! virtual Q&A to talk about romance. Richard Creighton, Sue Ryan, Gincy Heins, and Tony Copeland-Parker discussed what the word "romance" means to them personally, and how they manage to retain it in their relationships. Their hour-long conversation was inspiring, supportive, and full of practical information. What participants had to say:
- Iβm impressed with the positive attitude of the caregivers and the strategies they employ.
- I love how each couple has kept up their own ways of socializing or managing. It goes to show how unique each relationship is.
- This has been so rich and wonderful. I am grateful to all the presenters.
- All of the panelists are so inspiring! I'm so grateful to hear their stories.
- I love the way our panelists are so supportive of one another.
- You are all remarkable, and a great inspiration.
- Thank you for sharing so many honest thoughts.
You will gain much from listening. Tune in now!
The podcast is currently on break as Season 9 is in production. Future guests include Lori LaBey, Laurette Klier, Tony Copeland-Parker, Lynda Everman, Christy Byrne Yates, and Patti Davis. In the meantime, each week we'll spotlight interviews you may have missed with authors who have published new books: Wendy Mitchell and Peter Berry, with Deb Bunt. Stay tuned.
