Hello ,
I hope September is treating you well. Like all of us, every caregiving journey is unique and our stories are all our own. At AlzAuthors we share our stories through the written word but we recognize this is not the only way to communicate and often times our caregivers who are in the midst of caregiving have less time to write their stories. Many of us who have written and shared our stories have done so after our journey has ended. For Patti LaFleur, caregiver, daughter of Alzheimerโs, and care partner for her mother, she shared her journey as it happened. Patti did so in a series of short videos on social media and found an instant connection to others on her same path. We are honored this week to welcome Patti as an AlzAuthor though her words are not written in a book, they are nonetheless powerful. Her blogpost for AlzAuthors is inspiring and I encourage you to read it and follow Patti as she continues to support, encourage, and engage with the caregiving and dementia/Alzheimerโs community.

Patti says:
I was telling the same story that was traditionally written about in books, but I was doing so by sharing videos of my mom and I. I was sharing our laughter, dance parties, art activities, and the hard times. I was sharing our love, while also trying to share the challenges that come along with it.
By sharing our story, I believe that I have helped to change other caregivers/care partnerโs journeys and change the stigma around dementia. I have been able to show that you can truly live your best life despite a dementia diagnosis
