Myrna Marofsky shares her spousal caregiving journey
Feb 22, 2023 5:16 am
Hello ,
Many of us are currently caregivers or have been caregivers in the past, so I imagine most of us can relate to the words on this graphic. As a caregiver for both parents, it’s not hard to remember the days I felt overwhelmed by the caregiving role. Was I making the “right” or “best decisions” for my parents? I clearly recognize the wisdom of the words one thought at a time, one task at a time, one day at a time and the importance of stopping to take a breath and say “I’m doing the best I can.”
Remember, we are here to support you on your journey. You can find us, not only at https://alzauthors.com, but on social media, where we share inspiration, articles and a pathway to our books, blogs and podcasts.
I hope today will be a good day for you!

Our Most Recent Author
Myrna Marofsky’s touching memoir, To the Last Dance, A Partner’s Story of Living and Loving Through Dementia, speaks to the nearly one-third of the wives, husbands, partners, and family members on the care-giving side of a loved-ones progressive, life-altering diagnosis.
While totally committed to her husband, Myrna worked to maintain her own identity and the relationships that were important to her quality of her life. Her story of care-living encourages others to see possibilities amidst their trials, headaches and grief.
Myrna shares:
“I was driven by love for a man who had always been by my side, as I was for him. We were a team. I wasn’t going to let him down, yet I didn’t want to become a lesser version of myself in the process.”

Our Latest Podcast
Angela G. Gentile, MSW, RSW is the author of two books in the AlzAuthors collection. She came to us in 2016 with Caring for a Husband with Dementia: The Ultimate Survival Guide, inspired by her experience counseling eight amazing caregiving women. Her second book, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, & Memory Loss: A Helpful Guide for Caregivers, was recently published and was featured on our blog on February 10th. Her books have been referred to as "a first aid kit," for caregivers. A social worker specializing in geriatrics with more than 25 years' experience, Angela currently works as a consultant to assist families on a dementia journey using a variety of modalities.
In this episode we discuss the value of working with a social worker one-on-one to navigate the myriad of issues related to dementia care, how language affects discussions around dementia, the upside to using humor in caregiving, and the realities of canine cognitive dysfunction, aka "doggie dementia."
In her podcast and post, Angela also talks about her client Brent Hoag, who helped her write the chapter in book two that pertains to men caring for their wives, and reads his poem "Sail On," which he wrote for his wife, Sally. It was set to music and made into a video which you can watch on YouTube.
