Hello ,

AlzAuthors is excited to kick off a new campaign during the Month of Love. All donations made in February for Custom Caregiver Collections will be TRIPLED*! It's the perfect way to shower love on family and friends who are in the trenches of caregiving.

When someone receives a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia, the whole family is suddenly thrust onto a path for which they are likely ill prepared. Our books, written from personal experience, provide a handrail for the journey with practical advice, wisdom and inspiration.

Custom Caregiver Collections are made up of memoirs, novels, caregiving guides, books for young people and more. Visit the Custom Caregiver Collections page on our website and see how these books have made a difference in care homes, senior centers, memory cafes, libraries and other locations.

Thanks to two anonymous donors, your donations for Custom Caregiver Collections will have the largest impact ever! For example, if you donate $100, that amount will be matched by our donors, bringing the total to $300.

As an added bonus, AlzAuthors who make a donation of $25 or more will have their book included in a Custom Caregiver Collection.

Donate now!

Thank you for helping us provide support to caregivers across the country!

*Donations for Custom Caregiver Collections totaling up to $2,500 will be tripled.

Julissa Cruz Gomez is a Dominican doctor who lives and works in the Netherlands. In her vividly colorful book she takes children on a journey through the brain's pathways.

Julissa writes:

In this story, my niece, along with her cousin, a cat and a dog, undertake a wonderful journey to their grandmother's brain to understand what is happening there. There they meet Mr. Hippocampus and see the neurons up close. It is a beautiful story where children learn that love, patience and empathy is what their grandparents with cognitive problems need the most.

This week's podcast is a duet with authors Annette J. Wick and Pauletta Hansel, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, who are not only good friends but collaborators on writing workshops. Both have cared for mothers with dementia. Annette is a writer, speaker, and author of I’ll Have Some of Yours: What my mother taught me about dementia, cookies, music, the outside, and her life inside a care home, essays inspired by her dementia journey. Pauletta is a poet, essayist, and teacher who was Cincinnati’s first Poet Laureate (2016-2018). She is the author of Palindrome, a collection of poetry inspired by her personal caregiver experience. In this episode, we discuss their upcoming creative writing workshop for caregivers, beginning February 16, how digging deep through creative writing can be a therapeutic tool, and family dynamics in caregiving.
