New Podcast: Untangling a Caregiver Writing Workshop
Feb 01, 2023 12:46 am
Hello ,
We were thrilled to see news of AlzAuthors in three mainstream newspapers over the last week or so. The presentation of our most recent Custom Caregiver Collection by North Carolina author Mary Ann Drummond to Trinity Oaks, the senior living community that cared for her mother at the end of her life, was mentioned in the Salisbury Post. Thanks, Mary Ann! And thanks to Canadian author Rick Lauber for bringing this news story to our attention. Big thanks also go to last week's featured author, Patrick MacTaggart of Clackmannan, Scotland, who was so enthusiastic for his inclusion in AlzAuthors he sent out a news release to his local media, and two outlets picked it up: the Alloa Advertiser and the Dunfermline Press. Exposure in the media helps raise awareness of AlzAuthors, as well as Alzheimer's and dementia, which supports our goal to eliminate the silence and stigma that often surrounds these conditions. As you can imagine, it is near to impossible for our small team to keep up with the news and social media surrounding dementia. If you see AlzAuthors mentioned in the news, please let us know. The more eyes the better. Remember: Sharing our stories makes us strong.

Our Latest Podcast
This week's podcast is a duet with authors Annette J. Wick and Pauletta Hansel, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, who are not only good friends but collaborators on writing workshops. Both have cared for mothers with dementia. Annette is a writer, speaker, and author of Iβll Have Some of Yours: What my mother taught me about dementia, cookies, music, the outside, and her life inside a care home, essays inspired by her dementia journey. Pauletta is a poet, essayist, and teacher who was Cincinnatiβs first Poet Laureate (2016-2018). She is the author of Palindrome, a collection of poetry inspired by her personal caregiver experience. In this episode, we discuss their upcoming creative writing workshop for caregivers, beginning February 16, how digging deep through creative writing can be a therapeutic tool, and family dynamics in caregiving.

The AmazonSmile Program is Ending
We were disappointed to learn that Amazon is discontinuing its Smile program which helps nonprofits raise money. We're grateful to our friends and followers who have participated in this worthy program, giving us much needed funds to support our mission to provide quality resources to caregivers. The AmazonSmile program will wind down by February 20th, but purchases made until then will continue to deliver funds to AlzAuthors. After that, you may continue to support our mission by signing up to make monthly donations (even $5 a month helps) or a lump sum donation. Thank you for your support.
