Jaye Tee, Author of 13 Months: Diary of a Caregiver's Grief, Joins Us

Jaye Tee received her master’s degree in counseling and has spent over 20 years working in the mental health field. Throughout much of that time, she also acted as a caregiver for her grandmother. After her grandmother’s death, Jaye found herself lost in the despair of grief. She began to search for a more humane approach to understanding the realities and complexities of grief and healing after dementia caregiving. The experience led her to write this book as a way to advocate for caregivers in all varieties and those struggling with grief in its many forms.

Jaye shares: My hope with "13 Months: Diary of a Caregiver’s Grief" is to support others dealing with grief after the dementia caregiving comes to an end. I was compelled to open up and share my story of “grief’s messiness” to help normalize the full-range of emotions and reactions that can surface.

On The Podcast: Debra Tann, Ed. D. Untangles The Race of Dementia: Care, Cure, and Disparity

image

As a young child, Dr. Debra Tann encountered what she later learned to be dementia in her beloved great grandmother. At the time, the condition was known as “senility.” This encounter had a significant impact on her young heart and mind. She's the author of The Race of Dementia, part memoir, part guide to assist caregivers on the dementia journey with humor, insight, and practical advice. This book explores the racial disparities in dementia care as well as the race to find a cure. In this episode, we discuss how to help children understand a dementia encounter, how confusion begets confusion, how dementia adversely affects people of color, and how caregivers can empower themselves. We are joined by AlzAuthors co-founder Jean Lee, author of Alzheimer’s Daughter, the acquisitions editor who introduced Debra to our organization. Start listening now!

Gerda Saunders in PBS Documentary

Please share this across your networks (copy and paste). Thank you.

Our beloved friend Gerda Saunders (author of Memory's Last Breath: Field Notes on My Dementia) and her family are featured in this PBS documentary chronicling their lives over the past 6 years with dementia. It airs on Utah PBS February 17th at 7 pm, MT and will be available for streaming the following day. Gerda says: "We hope that you, my readers and viewers, will not be so overcome by the story’s inevitable sadness that you miss the joy our family has in each other, the trust we have developed with each other over a lifetime, and our well-intentioned desire that our story will bring understanding; the sense that you’re not alone, whether you yourself have dementia or someone you love; the heroic labor of love that caretakers and other family members provide to a dementer; and the joy that persists for many years—now over a decade for us—after a dementia diagnosis." A New Way to Support Us on Amazon

image

As an Amazon Associate AlzAuthors receives income from Amazon whenever someone purchases a book from our collection. How? A special link is attached to every book, and we use that link whenever we promote that book on our website and on social media, the podcast, everywhere we can. When a potential buyer clicks on that link to enter the Amazon store, we receive a small commission on anything they purchase through that link for the next 24 hours, for example 4% on Kindle books and 4.5% on physical books. Sounds cool, right? How does this affect you? It doesn't. You will incur no expense for us to receive a commission for promoting your book. You can also use this special link in your own promotions to drive commissions to AlzAuthors. If you would like to support us in this way, please send us an email at alzauthors@gmail.com and we will send you "your" link. Attach it to wherever you would attach the link to your book on Amazon: social media, website, emails, etc. Thank you for your support.
