Hello ,

I hope this email finds you well. We're sending out a few opportunities for you to share your work and to collaborate with other like-minded organizations. The work of AlzAuthors is well received in the dementia and caregiving worlds, and we're always working behind the scenes to make connections to promote the resources in our collection, including yours. If you have your own ideas or connections please let us know. We can all work together in our shared mission to bring quality resources to caregivers. Thanks for being a part of AlzAuthors.

Writing Opportunities

imageWe've been invited to alert our authors to several writing opportunities to share your dementia and Alzheimer's caregiving stories.

Being Patient welcomes submission to its VOICES series. They welcome contributions from dementia and Alzheimer’s caregivers, those who have or had a loved one with dementia, and those who are living with dementia. The goal of the VOICES Series is to give you a platform to share your voice by telling your story and offering advice to those who are going through similar experiences. They also welcome contributions from carriers of the ApoE4 gene (or those who suspect, based on family history, that they are carriers, but who have chosen not to undergo genetic screening) for whom this genetic trait has changed life in some way. Get their submission guidelines here.

Midstory Magazine is seeking personal essay submissions from women about their experiences of life, love, and loss during these messy middle years. They welcome writing from writers of all backgrounds and experience levels and every decade. Do you have a story about friendship or other relationships, your changing body, your work life, your shifting goals…? They want to read your experiences. Learn more and submit here.

Writing as a Pathway Through Grief, Loss, Uncertainty and Change: A Weeklong Retreat with Laura Davis & Evelyn Hall Tuesday, May 7 - Monday, May 13, 2024. This retreat is for caregivers or anyone who has come to a crossroads in their lives, due to the death of someone close, a loss like divorce, empty nest, or a move, an illness, a major life transition, shift in status, aging or simply the deep inner urge to chart a new course or make significant change in your life. It’s an in-person retreat in Watsonville, California in a gorgeous redwood forest. Learn more here.

Website Update

imageOur website is currently undergoing an upgrade. We look forward to presenting our authors in the best way possible. Your blog posts will still be front and center but we are streamlining some of our offerings and making it easier for caregivers to find what they need. We'll keep you posted on a launch date.

Building New Partnerships

image

One of our goals is to bring AlzAuthors and its collection of books to as many caregivers and readers as possible. We partner and collaborate with other like minded individuals and organizations to share our missions, increasing the number of people who visit our website, listen to our podcast, and discover your books. We've recently made the following connections:

Dementia Spring: Dedicated to supporting the arts in dementia care, Dementia Spring provides financial awards to artists, filmmakers, photographers and more who work on this space. AlzAuthors has partnered with them to bring our authors to their collaborative. Please check out their website and mission. A conference is planned in New York City in April. We are invited to attend. Stay tuned for details.

DementiaTLC aims to educate and provide support for all those affected by dementia, including those living with the condition, their loved ones, carers, family, friends, colleagues, professionals, and all those that could benefit from a little bit of knowledge or support. Brought to you by our friends at All Home Care Matters. We are proud to be featured on their site.

Coming Home Well streaming app is a dedicated space for veterans, first responders, and those that stand behind the uniform. They bring a holistic listening experience, offering a diverse range of resources and information: podcasts and talk shows to educate and empower, rock and country music, music block hour, meditation, veteran organization highlights, comedy, and so much more! AlzAuthors' "Untangling Alzheimer's and Dementia" podcast is proud to be among the many fine podcasts serving this community. An Author's Warning

image

Angela Gentile, MSW, RSW, author of Caring for a Husband with Dementia: The Ultimate Survival Guide, discovered last year that her book had been hijacked and plagiarized using artificial intelligence (AI). She did a load of research and discovered other books in the dementia field had had a similar fate. She describes her story in this YouTube video and article: My Book on Amazon was AI Hybrid Plagiarized Three Times. We in no way wish to alarm you, however as use of AI becomes more mainstream this could happen to any author. You may want to check your own titles. If you find any plagiarized copies notify the booksellers where they appear. They should be removed from the market. Unfortunately, book piracy is nothing new, but with these new tools and lax regulations it's looking like the Wild West. Our stories are deeply personal and close to our hearts. No one wants to see them in the wrong hands.
