Hello ,
I'm Jean, author of the memoir Alzheimer's Daughter written about my journey caring for both parents diagnosed on the same day. My caregiving experience lasted about eleven years from first suspicions to my parents' passing.
Although I worked full time as a 3rd grade teacher, I was not entrenched in the care of my own children as they were college age during my parents' illness.
However, I realize so many caregivers live within the triple whammy of 1) actively caring for young children, 2) working full time and 3) caregiving for a loved one...the sandwich generation.
That's why we believe, at AlzAuthors, that books written to explain Alzheimer's to young children are so important. Let's face it, children see our worry, hear us talk in hushed tones, and sense our overwhelmed exhaustion.
Marcia Ashford has written a lovely book that can help explain Alzheimer's with a loving tone of acceptance. I highly recommend Trudy Matoody and Grandma Rae for your family.
Our Most Recent Author, Marcia Ashford
Marcia tells us:
As a daughter of an Alzheimerโs patient, I understand. As someone who has experienced the impact of Alzheimer's firsthand, I wanted to create a resource for children that would help them understand this disease and how it affects their loved ones.

Join us for Februaryโs book club
February's read is "Be Brave: A Wife's Journey Through Caregiving" by Florrie Munat, a writer who cared for her husband with Lewy Body disease. But if you're short on time and would like to meet the author first you are welcome to join us.
Here's the schedule through April:
- February 27th 7pm EST: Florrie Munat โ Be Brave, a Wifeโs Journey Through Caregiving
- March 26th 7pm EST: Ruth Stevensโ Stage Seven, a novel
- April 30th 7pm EST: A gathering of poets for National Poetry Month: featuring Sherri Levine, Stealing Flowers from the Neighbors; Sue Fagalde Lick, Gravel Road Ahead; Daniel Potts, MD, Bringing Art to Life; Margaret Stawowy, co-editor of Storms of the Inland Sea, an anthology with Jim Cokas
