Hello ,

Welcome back to AlzAuthors! In this latest episode of Untangling Alzheimer’s and Dementia, we introduce our November Featured Author, Eliezer Sobel. His moving memoir, The Silver Lining of Alzheimer’s: One Son’s Journey into the Mystery, chronicles his role as unexpected caregiver for both of his parents, who were in their 90s and living with dementia.

Eliezer describes himself as "still living a post-hippie lifestyle" when the call came. His mother had been living with Alzheimer's for years, but when his father—her sole caregiver—suffered a traumatic brain injury from a fall, Eliezer had to step in. His story is both deeply moving and uplifting. If you're navigating the complex world of dementia care, this episode offers comfort and connection.

A Story of Loss—and Rediscovered Love

After his father suffered a traumatic brain injury at 90, Eliezer and his wife Shari made the life-altering decision to move into his childhood home, becoming the primary caregivers for both parents. As Eliezer shares with podcast hosts Christy Byrne Yates and Marianne Sciucco, who are joined by acquisitions editor Jean Lee, the challenges were daunting—sleepless nights, relentless anxiety, and the struggle to manage his father’s complicated finances. But amidst the hardship, Eliezer discovered an unexpected gift: a profound, wordless bond with his mother that Alzheimer’s could not erase.
