Hello ,
One parent with dementia is challenging enough, but when you have TWO parents with dementia while raising young children it’s easy to fall into despair and chaos. When Christy Byrne Yates, a licensed educational psychologist, writer, and speaker, found herself in this situation, she learned the necessary skills she needed to not only provide care to her parents and children, but also to herself.
In this replay of the AlzAuthors Aging & Amazing Books & Chit Chat discussion, she shares her insights, offering practical tips on navigating family dynamics, building a legacy of love in caregiving, and providing emotional resilience and support.
Christy’s openness about her emotional struggles and the lessons learned from her parents offers a profound exploration of the caregiving experience, reminding listeners of the enduring power of love, empathy, and self-discovery within the caregiving journey. Her unique perspective and heartfelt reflections make this episode a must-listen for anyone seeking valuable insights and guidance in managing the complexities of caregiving for aging parents, especially those dealing with dementia.
Author of Building a Legacy of Love: Thriving in the Sandwich Generation, she’s a member of the AlzAuthors management team, and co-host and producer of the “Untangling Alzheimer’s & Dementia” podcast.

In Case You Missed It …
In some families, children and grandchildren are on the dementia journey alongside us. How do we explain to them the changes they may see in a beloved family member? What do we say about the amount of time we may spend caring for them? How do we include them in the process in ways that are meaningful and memorable? In this podcast, we discuss these questions with Jeanette Fazzari Jones, author of the beautifully illustrated children's book Meatballs for Grandpa. Jeanette is a kindergarten teacher from Kentucky whose own experience with her grandfather's dementia left a strong impression and motivates her to advocate for Alzheimer's and dementia awareness.

AlzAuthors on The D Tour Podcast
Harriet Thomas, a passionate hiker at 60, is walking 900 miles from England's Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise £25,000 for the Dementia Adventure Support Fund. Her mission is deeply personal—her mum lived with dementia for nine years. Even in her mum’s final years, they shared precious moments of connection and joy in the garden, surrounded by nature. Inspired by these experiences, Harriet wants to help other families find peace, joy, and inspiration through Dementia Adventure’s supported breaks. Every mile of Harriet’s journey represents 1,000 people in the UK living with dementia. Every step is meaningful and shows recognition of the challenges this condition can bring and the importance of the right support. Community is crucial—no one should feel alone with this condition. After all, with the right support, we believe that anything is possible. Life shouldn’t end with a dementia diagnosis.
This is more than just a walk—it’s also a podcast, a fundraiser, and a movement to support people living with dementia. And we are proud to be among the many wonderful organizations interviewed, sharing resources for dementia caregivers. The link to listen is below. You can get all the detauls on their website.
