Hello ,
You may have noticed that these newsletters are generated by different people. This week's it's my turn because I put out the podcast. Last week it was Andrea's turn because she was the acquisitions editor who brought Shelly Calcagno into AlzAuthors. Next week it will be Andrea's turn again, and soon it will be Jean's turn, then Vicki's, and so on. We run AlzAuthors as a team, sharing the work, and backing each other when someone needs a break. It takes a village to make this platform work.
This week on the podcast, Tony Copeland-Parker, author of Running All Over the World: Our Race Against Early Onset Alzheimer's, talks about the village he recently created for his partner, Cat, and himself when her early onset Alzheimer's led them to settle down from their global travels to run marathons. Tony is no stranger to AlzAuthors: he's been on the podcast before, and he participated in our virtual event Love Stories: Keeping Romance Alive in Dementia Care. While they continue to live together in assisted living, Tony is no longer the sole carer for Cat, a big change for them, but also a much needed change. Caring for a loved one with dementia requires many hearts, heads, and hands.
In this podcast, we discuss how he came to make the decision to move into an assisted living center, why he chose the one he did, how he selected carers, and the strategies he employed to safely travel around the world with a partner with Alzheimer's.

Our Most Recent Author: Shelly Calcagno
Shelly tells us:
I hope that my book encourages families and loved ones facing the giant mountain of an Alzheimer’s diagnose, wondering how they will ever have the strength to make the journey ahead. In my book, I write about the significance of moments, and how I learned how to grab onto all the little gifts that were there, despite the pain. If my story can help others walking that shaky road between love and grief, while helping them hold on in the middle - then I’ve honoured my mother’s life well and our journey has had purpose. There is always hope in The Longest Goodbye.

New Virtual Event
In June, 2021, we were blessed to host five authors who are currently living with dementia to a virtual discussion where they shared their stories. On September 1st, they will reunite to update us on what’s happened since, how they cope with their conditions, manage to keep active and vital, maintain a positive attitude, and much more. Please join us. And please share the link to this blog post and registration info across your own websites, blogs, social media, podcasts, and online and in person support groups. All are welcome. It is free.
