Mark from Alchemist Camp by Mark

Your copy of 5 Little Potions just got a big upgrade

Years ago, you bought 5 Little Potions from Alchemist Camp.

This summer, I substantially rewrote and expanded the book, and the new edition has been live on Alchemist Camp for a few weeks now. I haven't properly announced it yet, so I wanted to finally let you know.

A big reason this revised edition took so long was LiveView itself. I wrote several of the original projects while LiveView was still changing rapidly, and ended up reworking parts of Flappy Phoenix multiple times as the framework evolved. After a while, I became reluctant to make another announcement about updating the book to the current version of LiveView when I wasn't confident the material would stay current for long. I'm sure those of you who bought other LiveView books around that time or followed my Simple Phoenix LiveView App series will remember.

Now that LiveView has stabilized, I've been able to revisit the book properly and rebuild it around the modern stack in a way I'm proud of. The new edition uses the guessing game as a preface, then walks through five full-sized projects, progressing from Elixir basics through LiveView and GenServers to a multiplayer LiveView game using PubSub and Presence.

Since you bought the original, the new edition is already yours. There's nothing else to purchase. Once you log in, you'll see it in your profile and you'll have a link to read it here: https://alchemist.camp/little-potions/

I've also been working on Alchemist Camp again, reorganizing the material into series, clearly marking archived content, and building some new learning features. I'll share more about that separately on YouTube.

I hope you enjoy the new book.
