I am Aisling Healy, the Work-Life Balance Coach here to help you on all things Work and Life related.

Work-Life Balance

Work-Life Balance can be one of the trickiest things to achieve and one which affects us the most. There’s so much going on day to day it can sometimes feel like the impossible task! We all need to balance; work activities, home life, exercise, cook, clean, self-care, stay in a good headspace and more.... you’re probably tired even just thinking about it!

I am going to give you some small steps you can take each month to help you achieve that all important balance through “Self-Care” and “Career Tips” which will cover various tips to help you achieve that all important balance in your life.

Self-Care

This month I’d like to talk about the current climate and living through the pandemic. I understand that it can really take a toll on our mental health with the isolation from lockdown, the uncertainty surrounding jobs, finding it difficult to gain new employment or complete change of your current work situation.

Now more than ever self-care is so important! I urge you to take time out that you need for yourself, don’t put yourself under too much pressure, try to be present and notice the things in life to be grateful for.

I am challenging you to self-care with the following:

  1. Journal. Buy a journal, use it in the morning and in the evening, even if you dedicate 5 minutes per day to it, writing down how you feel about everything. Don’t hold back as it is for your eyes only! This should help lighten the load in your mind and clearly define your thoughts.
  2. Limit your time on your phone and social media. I don’t think we realise how much of a toll social media can take on our mental health. For example, do you ever finish scrolling on your phone and all of a sudden feel exhausted? Too much screen time will play havoc with your sleep and energy levels so small steps first. Turn off the phone and put it on do not disturb 1 – 2 hours before bed. Take a note every day for a week on the difference you may feel after implementing this exercise, you should notice a big difference!
  3. Take a walk outside and really notice everything around you. I have been doing the same walk by my house every day and I only noticed a “new” building last week. I was shocked at how much I didn’t look around me when I walked. Give it a try and see how you feel, it will take you back to the present moment, help you appreciate the smaller things in life and makes such a difference to your day.

Let me know how you get on with the self-care challenges! 😊

Career Tips

As we are in December winding down for the holidays, you may be starting to reflect on your career, your job and may even be feeling it's time to move on and make a fresh start in the new year.

Here are some of my top tips to help you with your reflections over the coming weeks.

  1. Reflect on all you've achieved. So often we doubt our abilities, feel like we aren't good enough and question what value add we would have to another job or organisation. This is never true. Sit down and think of all the great work you've done over the year. Really analyse it. We are usually so on autopilot we don't realise the great things we've done and achieved! Write down at least 3 great things that you've done or learned this year.
  2. Analyse how you're feeling in relation to your job. Are you enjoying it? Do you feel fulfilled? Do you feel like you are just going through the motions? What is it that you are/aren't enjoying about your job? Really take time to reflect on how you're feeling. Remember you spend 1/3 of your day working, make sure it's something you enjoy!
  3. Ask yourself do you need a change. When you've reflected on point one and two the next question is; do you want a change? If it's yes and you've felt that way for a while, what's stopping you? If you feel you love your job but there are certain aspects of the role you aren't enjoying, think about what actions you can take to make your situation better.

Reflection is so important after every task completed or job done. It can really inspire you to keep going or show you when a change is needed. Let me know how you get on with your reflections, I'd love to hear if it helped you gain some clarity 😊
