I'm Aisling Healy, the Work-Life Balance Coach here to help you on all things Work and Life related.

It’s hard to believe February is nearly over but the evenings are getting brighter and the weather is starting to get better.

As we are still in the middle of lockdown, it’s important to note, it’s understandable if you’re feeling tired, exhausted and just looking for an end in sight. But it will come and there will be brighter times ahead. I hope the tips in this month’s newsletter will help you navigate through these difficult times.

Work-Life Balance

Work-Life Balance is about ensuring you make time for you and your life as well as achieve what you want in your career. It shouldn’t mean working long hours every day and making no time for yourself. It’s particularly important to put certain mechanisms in place while working from home.

Check out this month’s Self-Care and Career tips to help you achieve that all important balance.

Self-Care

Last month’s self-care tips were to take up a hobby or course that you’ve been putting off, taking 5 minutes per day to consciously deep breathe, and slot time in each week specifically for yourself. How did you find it?

This month my self-care tips are as follows:

  1. Create a morning routine. One that doesn’t involve your phone. Your stress levels are highest when you wake up in the morning and looking at your phone can increase these levels further. Create a small morning routine, particularly without your phone. Maybe it will be having a mindful cup of tea listening to some music, journaling, or reading. Whatever it is, try dedicating 10 minutes per day to this and leave the phone down. Remember all the information will be there on your phone, it won’t go anywhere, so give yourself that time to wake up and start your day mindfully.
  2. Write down 5 positive things about yourself. We are often so hard on ourselves. When we didn’t do something or acted a way which we regret, we fill ourselves with negative words about ourselves and our actions. Instead of letting those negative thoughts in, counteract them with positive things about yourself. The things you did well. Write them down and practice them. That way when negative thoughts start to creep in, you’ll be able to remove them with positive thoughts.
  3. Laugh every day. Laughing can have such a positive effect on your physical and mental health. Consciously slot time in to laugh! Watch your favourite show, listen to a funny podcast or comedian, whatever it takes make sure you get some laughter in each day!

Let me know how you get on with the self-care challenges! 😊

Career Tips

Last month’s tips were to set goals for yourself around your career. This month check in on your progress on those goals and make sure you are tracking them and taking action. You should do this every week/month going forward.

  1. Go through your list of goals, set daily tasks that will be small steps towards your goals. For example, did you say you wanted to move job? The next step would be to prepare your CV & Cover Letter. Next step would be to apply for jobs daily.
  2. Track your progress. Slot time in every week to review the progress you made towards your goals, what did you this week that was a step towards your goals? What did you not do? What are you going to do next week?
  3. Creating specific time slots. Time management is something we all struggle with. There are so many moving parts to the day, working, eating healthy, cleaning, cooking, exercise etc. The next thing you know the day is gone and you didn’t take action towards your goals. In order to achieve your goals, analyse your schedule and allocate time for each task that you must complete. Carve out an hour for those tasks towards your goals each day. If it’s too much to begin with, start with 30 minutes.

Motivational Quote for February:

“No matter how difficult you may think that your life is currently becoming, brighter days are always ahead waiting to embrace us, if we never dare to stop pressing forward.”
