And now back to your favourite monthly newsletter 😊
I hope you all had a nice St. Patrick’s Day. I think we are definitely using these times to get more creative when it comes to different celebrations for different occasions. As the months go on, I know it may be feel increasingly despairing, not knowing for certain when things will start going back to the way things were, but we are nearly there and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Let’s take a look at this month’s Self-Care & Career tips to help you take time out for yourself, stay motivated, and ensure you are achieving that all important work-life balance.
Self-Care
Last month’s self-care tips were to create a morning routine, write down 5 positive things about yourself (achievements etc.) and to laugh every day as much as possible. How did you find it?
This month my self-care tips are as follows:
- Write down 3 things you are grateful for every day. Times can be really hard, particularly right now. We are missing friends, families, our normal daily routines that had been all taken away without a moment’s notice. These are things we cannot control unfortunately. Instead of thinking of all those things you can’t control, try looking at all of the things you have now, that you are grateful for. This week I’ve definitely been grateful for the sunshine and my cups of tea in the morning. 😊 Give it a try and see how you feel.
- Switch off. Do you often look at your phone, TV or check an email before you go to bed? I know I can be guilty of this far too often. Over the next few weeks try switching off from technology, starting at least an hour before bed. Try reading a book, meditating or listening to some calming music instead. I’ve tried this and the difference I feel after it is amazing! And I have a deeper sleep! Give this one a try, I’d love to see how it helps you. Which brings me on to my next tip.
- Prioritise sleep. Studies show that adults should be getting at least 7 hours per night sleep. A top tip here to get yourself to bed earlier is to create a night routine. Along with switching off your phone, make an effort to get to bed a half an hour earlier than you usually do and maybe read a book or meditate. It’ll help you wake up fresher and ready for the next day. Again, you should really feel a difference here.
Let me know how you get on with the self-care challenges! 😊
Career Tips
This month for Career Tips, one issue clients often come to me with, is negativity in the workplace. Sometimes it can happen around you and you don’t know how to avoid it. Sometimes you may not realise for a while, but you’ve found yourself in that negative space and you’re not sure how to get out of it.
The following are my tips of navigating through negativity in the workplace:
- Do not engage in negative talk. If there is constant complaining around you from co-workers, resist the urge to engage with it. Engaging in this type of talk constantly, may start impacting your mental health, feelings, stress and anxiety. Politely reply that you’d prefer not to talk about it as you prefer to focus on your work and remain positive. I understand this is not an easy thing to do at first, but the more you do this, the less people will come to you with this type of negativity.
- Take action where necessary. If you yourself are feeling negative about something that has happened in the workplace, something that is concerning you, ask yourself can you change this? Can you raise the issue with someone that can offer some sort of a resolution? Try take some action, if you can, to resolve the issue rather than letting that negativity bubble up inside. If you can't change the situation, practice letting it go and focusing on the positive things.
- Be positive and patient with those around you. If you instil positivity, talking about good things, or the things you are grateful for, this will enable you to be positive, and spread those positive vibes to others around you. If someone sends a snappy email or says something short to you, then don’t get angry immediately. Remember you never know what’s going on in other people's lives either. So take a deep breath, say it’s just not their day and don’t let it in to affect you personally.
These tips should help remove some of the negativity you may experience in your working environment. Let me know how you get on with it.
