All the drama...

Mar 01, 2024 6:02 pm

Well, it's March already.

And February was quite the month.

Remember how I mentioned last month that winter had been mild in December and January? Well, February decided enough was enough and gave Nova Scotia a snowpocalypse. Up to 150 cm fell in some places and most of the province was buried in winter. Where I live received around 20-30 cm so a bit more manageable, but still not fun to dig out or for driving. I also had trouble with the car's battery, but that's all fixed.

And then came Findaway Voices...

If you haven't heard, Findaway Voices (an audiobook distributor owned by Spotify) tried to slip what amounted to a rights grab into its new Terms Of Service update. After outraged authors and narrators bombarded them with angry emails, they backtracked within 24 hours and reworded the offending passage, claiming it was a mistake. But the damage has been done. Authors have pulled or are planning to pull their audiobooks out of Findaway's distribution network. Now why am I telling you this? Because my one audiobook is with Findaway distribution and I will most likely leave soon. I haven't decided where the book will end up, but I'm leaning toward going direct through my Lemon Squeezy store and having Audible and Apple as my only retail platforms.

So how was your February? Hopefully, it had less drama.

On the writing front, it was a bit sporadic, but I did get some editing done on the next two Heyward and Andersen stories. All the other distractions have slowed me down, though, and I am behind schedule. The two stories will be published this year, but they may be out closer together and slightly later in the summer. I'll see how things go.

This month's Inside the Book fact

Going inside the Heyward and Andersen series.

This series of short stories started as a possible submission for a Sherlock Holmes adjacent anthology. The anthology never happened, but the characters stayed with me, so that's how the series began its life (and why it is composed of short stories). But an interesting tidbit is the odd sayings (such as "the owls are in the moss") that Lars spouts are rough English translations of actual Norwegian idioms. I'm sure they sound much better in Norwegian.
