What To Do In November
Nov 02, 2024 5:01 pm
Halloween has come and gone, with all the spooky goodness. The October Frights Blog Hop went well as did all my other plans and events. I hope you all had a good October as well.
Now that it is November, the weather is more seasonally cool and we've even had a hint of snow. But I'm still pretending winter isn't coming, and I won't be convinced until the ground is white.
Usually this month, I'd be participating in NaNoWriMo, but due to the repeated and ongoing bad behavior of that organization, I deleted my account and moved on. I will be taking part in some other sprints and events this month, and I hope to get Tales of the Norse Gods edited and ready for publishing. I am wondering when to publish that book though. I had originally thought to try for around March 2025, but since the first story in the collection is a Yule tale, I'm reconsidering for a November 2025 release. What do you think?
I'll also be working on a new book this month, a horror ghost story set in a lighthouse. I haven't got a title yet, or rather I have several title possibilities but haven't found one I'm satisfied with yet. I'm sure the deeper I get into writing it though, a title will come to me (at least I hope so).

Inside the Book
Tales of the Norse Gods
The original story that spawned the idea for this book was part of a charity anthology, Christmas Lites VIII, where the original premise was Norse Mythology meets a Christmas Carol and it was written more on the side of silly humour. I've tweaked the original story a bit for the new book, making it a bit more serious and changing some names, but it's still the starting point of the adventure.

And here's another little plug for the new Heyward and Andersen story.
Rivalry and Steam Monsters (Heyward and Andersen, Consulting Detectives #4)
Dark alchemy is afoot in London!
Amidst declining business and a tarnished reputation, Heyward and Andersen eagerly welcome their new client, even if he is spinning tales of strange creatures in the Thames. Initial inquiries uncover suspicious behaviour at Markham Laboratory, a forbidding location that discourages visitors.
Additional investigation leads them into the world of alchemists, Eldritch gods, and a thrilling finale full of mayhem and magic. It’s Heyward and Andersen vs. monsters, human and otherwise, with the fate of London and the world at stake!
Set in a world of airships, mysteries, and the supernatural, Rivalry and Steam Monsters, is the fourth short story in the Heyward and Andersen, Consulting Detectives series.

October Bones: A Halloween Collection of Dark Tales
by Harlan Black
Sometimes it’s the monsters who wear masks.
Charlemagne is an ordinary New England small town, full of ordinary residents. But some have secret lives where the boundary between human and nonhuman blurs…
Especially on Halloween night.
A time when ghosts wander, demons roam, and blood spills once again. Tonight, unsuspecting locals face real horror that comes in many forms, from people they thought they knew. Neighbors. Friends. Fiends.
These interwoven stories explore the dark, secret heart of a place where wickedness lurks…and waits.
When you hear a knock on the door, will it be a trick or a treat?
Half Past Dread by Mandi Konesni and A.L. Gray
Shadows of a thousand years
Rise again unseen.
Voices whisper in the trees,
Nothing is ever as it seems.
Monsters exist, whether they be real or wholly in our minds. Some of us enjoy the fear of the unknown, the thrill of danger that comes from something we can't understand. Others like to delve into the deepest recesses of the human mind, to discover what lurks beneath an ordinary facade.
Whether you want to be afraid of what lurks in the dark, or to wonder about the evil surrounding you every day, the four chilling stories of Half Past Dread have something for everyone.
