Advanced Look at Murder, Magic, and Maple Fudge
Jul 15, 2025 5:01 pm
As promised, here's your exclusive launch announcement for Murder, Magic, and Maple Fudge. You get to check out the book early, before the official release on July 17th.
It's here! My first foray in paranormal cozy mystery has launched!
It's been a struggle getting here, with writing in a new genre, pantsing the project instead of plotting, and doubting myself many, many times along the way.
So how did I, a horror fantasy writer, end up writing a cozy mystery with witches? My muse got drunk and made me. That's the best explanation I can come up with. It all started with that pretty cover. I created it originally as practice for my cover skills, and as it progressed, a little voice whispered, "Write the Story". I resisted, then that little voice said, "Set it in Nova Scotia and add magical rumrunners as a backstory".
What can I say? I'm a sucker for history... and my muse drinks rum. Now on with the launch.
Murder, Magic, and Maple Fudge
One witch. One dead body. Bakeries shouldn’t deliver murder.
After leaving her old existence and coven politics behind, Bridget Redwood relishes cozy, small town living and the joys of running a bakery. Now witchcraft means never burning her caramel.
Until the day her landlord ends up murdered on the floor of her shop.
It’s a recipe for trouble, and Bridget must muster all her magic to deal with a community of suspects. Confronted with a ghost and a decades old mystery, the clues lead her to a hidden room and a lost grimoire, before pointing straight at her arrogant rival. But are the clues leading to the truth? Or is another sinister force at work?
Can Bridget unravel deadly secrets in time to save her sleepy little town of Easthaven Bay and avoid becoming the next victim?
If you’re looking for your next cozy paranormal, read Murder, Magic, and Maple Fudge, the first book in the Sweet Spells Mysteries series.
(This is the ebook launch, the paperback is coming soon)
Opening Excerpt:
The bakery opened in five minutes, half-a-dozen things needed finishing, and of course my employees were late on a morning when everything went wrong. I misplaced the pecans and wasted half an hour searching for them, almost burned a batch of cupcakes, and I was fairly sure I had flour smudged over my nose. Normally I could handle minor chaos, but after last night… It was enough to make me want to resort to a magic spell to speed things up.
Take a breath. You can do this.
I wiped down the counters, appreciating the smooth feel of the cloth gliding over granite and the faint scent of disinfectant. As always, the repetitive action and the cozy ambiance calmed me, and I inhaled the mix of yeasty, sugary sweet air with a hint of maple, and the smell of coffee from the percolators. Despite the time crunch, I closed my eyes and took a moment to relax.
Now, as one last thing, I'm going to ask a favour. If you would be so kind, share the book on your socials on July 17th. I could really use the help getting the word out with this one as I'm new to the genre. And thanks for sticking with me during this slight detour to my author journey.
