3 Sunday Musings (May 9th--the reflective edition)

Hey

Here are this week's musings.

1.“Your mind has to be stronger than your feelings.”

Tim Grover, the trainer to Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, and many other high-performing athletes and entrepreneurs, said this during a recent interview.

If you haven’t read 'Relentless,' stop what you’re doing and get it. He also has a new book coming out soon titled ‘Winning.'

If I think about it, a great majority of the time that I make decisions solely off my feelings, I end up regretting them.

Common examples are frequently discussed around not feeling like working out and actually doing it.

But what about tougher ones involving friends, family, and other obligations when it comes to your fitness, business, and career aspirations?

Now it gets tougher.

2.What’s the price you’re willing to pay for “x result”

Everything comes at a cost.

Success. Failure.

Losing 10 pounds of fat. Gaining 10 pounds of fat.

Aging like a fine wine. Aging like milk.

You get the point.

After numerous interviews and conversations with many entrepreneurs and highly successful people, it’s imperative to know the price you’re willing to pay for your result.

I believe you can have it all, just not at the same time.

Want to grow a successful business?

In the beginning, you’ll probably put your love life on the sideline, along with having perfect attendance for your social engagements.

Want to lose fat and have uncommon health and "aging" compared to others?

You’ll probably sacrifice some leisure time or have to pass up on some pastries? Not saying you can’t have any, but you’re not going to eat them as liberally as the “common folks” will.

Review your goals this week, and ask yourself what you’re willing to pay for your results.

Since everything has a cost, the decision comes down to which cost is more appealing on the duality of scale.

3.Give people their flowers while they’re here

When my father passed, many were shocked because he looked so healthy and vibrant looking on the outside. However, his interior was mightily struggling.

He didn’t look “sick” to people.

And since he didn’t look sick, many people procrastinated on visiting him and calling him.

They’ll get around to it.

Oftentimes, the “I’ll get around to it” philosophy does come back to bite us. In this instance, it did for many of them.

Over the months afterward, “I wish I stopped by” and “I wished I called him” were phrases shared with me.

I tried to offer them compassion because it’s human nature to put off what we think will be there tomorrow, but some are still struggling, especially family members.

I don’t mean to be a downer. If anything, I hope those serve as a reminder not to wait until someone passes to give your flowers.

Give your flowers, attention, and praise while they’re here.

I’m not exempt from this, as I can easily get engulfed in work and projects and forget the rest of the world exists.

Let’s start today by sharing our gratitude and appreciation for at least 1 person.

As a benefit, you’ll be improving various health markers, including your longevity.

As you hear me often say on the podcast, “optimal health is an inside-out job.”

Stay awesome, be limitless, and go be superhuman
