YouTube in Poland & Elsewhere

Hello again!
Firstly, thank you to all of you who've emailed with your feedback. I really appreciate it! 🤗 It's also helped me realise that although I can receive emails on this address, I can't reply (I thought I had finally fixed this account, argh!). While I sort that out, I will get back to you via a different email if I haven't already.
Polish stuff
The BBC used to have a great year-in-review show by Charlie Brooker called Screenwipe. His production company is also behind the more recent Netflix shows Death to 2020 and Death to 2021 which were similar but with big stars acting as talking heads. These annual round-ups were highly entertaining and always worth watching. But why mention this in this 'Polish stuff' sub-section?
Well, I recently noticed that the format is being used in Poland, but not by Polish TV. This time it's on a much smaller budget by Polish YouTubers. I'm not sure Polish television would ever commission something quite so acerbic.
Check out TEN KRAJ TO MEM. Podsumowanie 2021 w Polsce [THIS COUNTRY IS A MEME: A Summary of 2021 in Poland]. Yes, it's only in Polish, but even from watching it for a moment Brits will see the influence of Brooker's show. Also, be warned that it pulls no punches!
Not Polish stuff
I've been writing a lot for Ship 30, so I'm just going to link to something I wrote as part of the course that was in the Procrastilearning.com ironic style I'm developing. From the comments, most people seemed to get it, but not everybody, bless 'em. It's a short so-called 'atomic essay' titled 3 Tips for High-Achieving Parents with Small Children Who Want More Time to Super-Crush Work:
Yet again, I didn't write a full new blog - there has been a lot of travel this week as well as the course and general life. If you haven't checked out my first proper Procrastilearning blog, it's here:
Video recommendation of the week
Have you seen $456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!? It's a recreation of Squid Game by famed YouTuber Mr Beast. It's not anywhere near as good as the original show it's based on, but it's worth seeing due to the fact it's a milestone in how video production and consumption is changing.
It's the first Youtube video to cost over 3.5 million USD to make which is something that would have been ridiculous when the platform started. It has had around 282 million views since it came out last November, so it's probably made a couple million back via ads and sponsorships.
Like my recommendation of TEN KRAJ TO MEM above, I find the way online video is changing the TV landscape a fascinating topic. People happily watch random people making their own videos instead of their TVs, and all the platforms are geared towards making people addicted to watching more clips (because more time on these platforms means more data about you to put the most appropriate ads in front of you). Even Internet dinosaur Facebook has said it wants to change the way it shows video to be more like TikTok.
By the way, if you haven't actually seen Squid Game, it was one of Netflix's biggest hits when it came out in 2021. It's not for the squeamish but definitely worth watching, especially if you enjoyed the 2000 film Battle Royale, which it's clearly indebted to.
Okay, that's enough for this week. Hope you all have a great one 😊
