Forgotten Marek at the London Transport Museum

Hi,
This week, a mixed Poland-UK bag for you, some Marek-related, some newsy.
Auction opportunity
A rare opportunity to bid for a Marek painting has appeared.
It looks very underpriced at the moment. I would recommend bidding if you like it.
The auction takes place next week on Tuesday 16th May. Handily, they seem to be accepting online bids. Very fancy.
Unearthing forgotten treasures at the London Transport Museum
Today, my wife and I went to visit the London Transport Museum Depot in Acton. We were invited by appointment to see a huge dismantled mural, a Marek piece some thought had been lost.
It was made for the Festival of Britain in 1951, the same festival that gave birth to the Royal Festival Hall.
We had only ever seen the original mock-up he'd made beforehand:
It was very pleasing to hear the real thing is being protected in perpetuity along with other more famous artworks associated with the London Underground.
I will write up a full in-depth blog about it soon on TranslatingMarek.com, along with newly-discovered photos from when it was actually on display in the 1950s. Stay tuned.
A good problem to have
I don't usually comment on actual news, but I found the recent story that Poland had to stop accepting renewable energy onto its grid very encouraging.
There has been a massive uptick in people adding solar panels to their roofs since the Ukrainian invasion, as nobody wants to be reliant on paying the high energy bills that have resulted. As I'm sure you're aware, the pain of high costs is being felt across Europe while everybody is trying to become less reliant on Russian energy.
The fact Poland's grid is unable to deal with all this new clean energy and has been having to prioritise its old plodding coal network is just a sign that soon this whole balance will have to change or it'll be overly wasteful.
An excellent omen.
That's all I've got for you this week. Thanks for reading. Go in peace and have some tea.
