The sun is finally shining! ☀️

The sun is finally shining and what a relief! I don't know about you but my mood has significantly changed over the last few days for the better and that is in thanks mainly to the sunshine. For me that speaks to the relationship that I and we all have with the world around us and how much it can impact us without us realising. It is also why our gardens can be so important as a resource for us from our busy and hectic lives. Which is why for me gardening is all about relationship.

Everything starts to feel better with the onset of the sunshine and you can see it all around and not just in people. The leaves coming out on the trees and all the spring flowers spring forth with the greater amount of sunshine. I hope that you have got some beauty to enjoy within your garden and that it is starting to dry out from all the rain we have had!

As you can see above, coming up next week I have a talk on Wildflower meadows. Over the years of establishing and managing wildflower meadows for people I have seen how there is a wildly differing understanding of what a wildflower meadows is and what plants it contains. This for me speaks to the lack of relationship with our grassland. In the past wildflower meadows were all around and needed to supply grazing and hay for livestock. These days the wildflower meadows are missing and the need for hay is very little, however with the knowledge that wildflower meadows support a huge amount of wildlife where does this habitat fir into our landscape?

Well its the gardeners such as yourself that are creating this habitat large and small, with real impact. However the modern meadow is being created to support wildlife not hay. So is there any difference in how we manage our meadows not to the past? I will be discussing this and more on Wednesday 24th April at 5.30 at the Totnes climate hub, it would be lovely to see you there.

Talking of wildflower meadows the scythe season is well upon us.

There are a few places left on my scythe course on May 11th to book click here

I hope that you enjoy the sunshine and that it sticks around for a while!
