I hope that this finds you well and that you have been enjoying some of the sunshine we have been having! May is such a glorious month and this one does seem to be spectacular and one of my favourite plants foxglove seems to be everywhere, which I am enjoying.
Scything is in full swing now, teaching and cutting the meadows. It is something that I really enjoy and seeing how well the mosaicing approach that I take works. This can be done whether scything or using a dare i say it mower! I really encourage you if you took part in no mow may to not just completely mow the whole area. Cut the area in sections, known as mosaicing which creates a much more diverse habitat and extends the flowering period, which is the aim of the game.
To find out more about mosaicing you can do one of my up coming scythe courses, my next one is on June 22nd in Boadhembury near Honiton, East Devon. Click here to find out more. Or I will be giving a talk at the Kingsbridge nature festival on Thursday 20th June. For more information about that click here
I am now supplying all my scythe kits with thicker blade guards, if you have purchased a scythe kit from me then I am happy to give you a thicker blade guard free of charge. If it needs posting you will need to cover the postage. Let me know if you want to take me up on my offer.
The Green Scythe Fair is coming up this weekend and hopefully I will catch some of you there.
Warmly,
Ross
