Spring is coming! 🌼

I hope that this finds you well and that winter has been kind to you. In comparison to last winter this one has felt very generous, and may it continue.

You may be beginning to see the first stirrings of spring in your garden. I have been seeing snowdrops, primroses, some daffodils and I saw the first blackthorn blossom. It is a lovely time of year. It helps to draw us outside again to greet all these familiar friends as they return. What are your favourite signs of spring?

With the onset of spring it means that scythe season is not too far off. I have begun to prep my blades and given my snath (the wooden part) a coat of boiled linseed oil. Where I am in devon its damp over the winter so its pretty common to pull out a scythe blade from its winter rest, to find it with rust spots on. If this is the case dont worry this can be easily cleaned off with some garryflex, which is widely avaliable.

Talking of rust if your looking ahead to scything and your feeling a bit rusty I have put my scythe course dates up. My first course is on Saturday 5th April, my courses are open to beginners and people looking for a refresher. This early season date is great to get you ready for the season ahead and get you into the swing of it. For more information click here

Feel free to get in touch and enjoy the onset of spring. Until next time...

Warmly,

Ross
