just one secret you need for 2022, {{contact.first_name}}

Guess what, ?

I already dropped this (without the story) for the people connected to me on my green App (WhatsApp) before coming here.

This secret is not meant to be a secret but you will find out when you read till the end.

Consider two friends Sharon and Cynthia who both graduated from the University of Lagos at the same time.

They both made a First class in Computer Science and parted ways after graduation.

Sharon got a job offer as a mid-level IT support staff from a bank immediately with a 6-figures monthly salary. Cynthia, on the other hand, could not get one instantly.

While Sharon was living a life she felt good with her pay able to cater for an apartment in the luxury part of Ikoyi, Cynthia could only manage with her aunt, who was a lecturer at Yabatech, Yaba.

Cynthia started sharpening her skills in programming at home and got the privilege to intern with an innovation hub not far from where she resides.

Despite being paid just what could only cater for her transportation and feeding, she worked like a senior staff at the organization.

She would arrive early, ask questions from her colleagues and volunteer to take part in projects involving software development without expecting any remuneration.

So as to avoid being asked her salary and the job she did, she kept her close connections very small and stayed focused on her personal growth.

After 12 months of interning, Cynthia came across a senior software developer position on LinkedIn by a top tech firm in Lekki and put in for it.

Good enough, it was owned by a Canadian who was working on a software product for the Lagos State Government.

After series of virtual interviews, she was invited for the final stage which was physical where she displayed all the products she had worked on and the skills gathered over time.

Despite being the less experienced in terms of number of years worked, some time surprising happened.

Viola! She got the job alongside two others from eight developers who made it to that final state.

This was huge. They were going to be paid 5-figures in dollars and given an apartment to reside in at Lekki Phase II.

Clap for me now let me hear it from here.

I guess I'm going to be a good storyteller if I decided to be one.

I just thought all that in my head to show you some lessons.

I don't know if you are the Sandra or Cynthia in the story but I need you to never forget these as you see 2022 ahead of you:

1) Treasure progress over activities

If Cynthia ever thought Sharon was doing better than her and waited to get what the later had without doing something progressive, she would have missed the huge thing coming.

Take deliberate and progressive steps instead of wander around the tent of worry because you don't have what your mates have.

Invest in progressive steps and make progress instead.

2) Value accuracy over speed

Arriving at a destination first never means being the first always.

Have you seen what is happening between Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk on the world richest man ranking? Find out if you have not. It was the same that happened with Jeff and Bill Gates.

Have you asked where Elon was when Jeff was top of the world richest man rating?

Take time to build competencies that will keep you continually relevant than a being a one-off star.

3) Finally, value lessons and competencies over drama.

Expect so many drama as you enter 2022 but save your mind from considering them as important.

If you reside in Nigeria, you will understand this point better.

I will not delve so deep into this because some scripts are better kept in the shelf of the mind than made available in the public library.
