I did tell you many emails ago that you’re not reading a normal newsletter. In fact ilang beses ko na ginagawa na mag-joke around with you guys. 

Buti na lang di ka pa nag-unsubscribe, whew!

Seriously though, I got to thinking. Bakit kaya lagi ako nadadale ng mga pranks na ganito? 

naghahanap ka lang pala ng madadamay CoaSH e!

Probably, but I think there’s a human psychology lesson to be unearthed here. Most of the pranks and jokes that worked on me had the same base pattern. 

It was all about proving someone wrong, just like what you tried to do, . And you succeeded! ^_^

When people tell you that you can’t do something, it’s like they’ve just pressed your “a ganon ha!” button.

Suddenly, you feel this urge to prove them wrong. It’s like a challenge you can’t resist!

Pero bakit?

One reason I dug up (yes nag-rabbit hole na ako sadly) for this is the need for validation. 

When someone doubts your abilities, you’re like, “The nerd! Don’t me ha! Wag ako!” 

You want to show them that they underestimated you, or that you’re not just like so many other “normal” people who can’t do it. 

Parang that time when I was in junior high school and I proved my english teacher Ma’am Lorna Lumanta wrong about the pronunciation of the word ‘gaol.’ 

Yun o! Ni-look up mo no?!

Di pa uso google nito (but they were around na) and YouTube, MySpace, or ever Friendster wasn’t even born yet, so big deal yung pronunciation nun. 

Of all the things I chose to remember from highschool, you’d ask bakit ito kasama? 

Other than the fact that I was also an insufferable know-it-all, I think it was because it was one of the very rare times na tama ang teenagers (who normally didn’t have any power) against a known figure of authority, and navalidate tayo in public.

It was such a high for me.

Now I don’t have anything against Ma’am Lorna, in fact she’s one of my most beloved teachers growing up (I was even at her wedding years later). Pero iba talaga yung high of proving others wrong that it actually formed a core memory in my brain at that instant. 

Ikaw , ano yung mga times in your life na grabe yung validation mo na you proved someone wrong? Kwento mo hehe. 

What does this have to do with Freelancing? 

Well, next time someone tells you that you can’t do something, just smile and say, “aba teka! sabi ni Shoden kaya ko to!” 

Because deep down, you know that kayang-kaya pala ng head mo mag bob forward and backward while your mouth is open and your tongue is out..

so what’s another set of tasks like doing web dev, seo, leadgen, obm services, podcast editing, or social media management on top of that?
