Love Was So Exhausting!

Dear —

When, at the close of Shakespeare's play The Tempest, Prospero sees the sparks of romance fly between his daughter Miranda and Prince Ferdinand, he comments...

"I am very glad I shall never

Be twenty and have to go through that business again.

The hours of fuss and fury, the conceit, the expense..."

At least, that is what W.H. Auden imagines him saying in his masterpiece poem, The Sea and the Mirror, from which I have performed Prospero's lines many times in my one-man show.

I am reminded of these verses now as I edit my next book release, Her Infinite Variety: Odes to the Mortal Goddess. It is full of devotions and denouncements to the women I once knew, some intimately, some passingly, some teasingly, and some remotely and beyond reach.

But it needs a lot of editing before release, which will be this year I hope, and of course I'll let you know when the day approaches.

Meanwhile, you'll be able to read some sample poems as I release them on Instagram at instagram.com/poet_prophetic over the coming months. Also, my poetry books published thus far are listed together on a single page at books.bookfunnel.com/poetprophet.

"Your loves as mine to you." (To quote Shakespeare, as I often do.)
