Dear —
Do you remember I told you I write fiction in verse?
Otherwise known as epic poetry, or narrative poetry, it is a genre few writers attempt, let alone narrate as an audiobook! But some themes are just too majestic to tell in prose.
Among such themes, of course, are the siege of Troy (or Ilium) in Homer's The Iliad, the founding of Rome in Virgil's The Aeneid, and the infidelity of Guinevere in Tennyson's Idylls of the King.
I love them all, but my personal favorite is Milton's Paradise Lost, depicting the original battle between angels for control of Heaven and for the soul of humanity. That is where I discovered Abdiel, the great seraph angel who in Book V defies Satan's call to rebel against God.
He is the first both to rebuke Satan and to strike him in battle, sending his enemy staggering back "ten paces huge, the tenth on bended knee."
It's good stuff, isn't it? And if you love a fictional character that much, why not put him into your own stories?! Or even change your name to his. As I have also done!
In my own tale, it is Abdiel who first appears to Obama in the White House and takes him on a shamanic journey through time and space, even to the throne of God. There, the politician stands accused by Satan, and only an intervention by our Great Intercessor can save him. The plot may remind you of Scrooge's awakening in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
I am harping on about this today because Obama's Dream is one of some 30 books available here at deeply discounted prices. And many of them are free if you are a Kindle-Unlimited subscriber (though my own book is not in KU).
"Your loves, as mine to you. Farewell." (To quote Shakespeare, as I often do.)
Abdiel
