Dear and esteemed new member of my Poetry Readers List —
You don't need me to tell you...
... that a tyrant occupies the seat of power, that he struts around in public with his foreign trophy wife, that he destroys the nation's cherished traditions and institutions, and that he fuels climate change with his stubborn refusals to embace truth.
I speak, of course, of King Ahab in 9th-century BC Israel, ruling with his idol-worshipping bride from the neighboring kingdom of Sidon, Queen Jezebel. Turning a deaf ear to the prophet Elijah, Ahab brought on his country years of drought, culminating in a showdown where the man of God calls down fire from Heaven to overthrow a nation's corruption.
Later, Elijah prophesied both Ahab and Jezebel would be dog's meat, and he was right! My epic poem Elijah, reinventing the great prophet's life, is part of this Epic-History promotion of deeply discounted titles. Meanwhile, my companion narrative poem, Obama's Dream, is also enrolled in this fiction promotion.
Also enjoy this one-minute video in which I share Unto, a tribute to Christ in verse.
Until the next time I "unclasp a secret book..." (To quote Shakespeare, as I often do.)
