Do you know what I HATE more than stepping on a scale?
Stepping on a scale and seeing the number hasn't budged *gulp*
It's like my body is playing a cruel joke on me. "Oh, you thought you were making progress? Muuuhaha, think again!"
(I also made this face when I ran out of ice cream)
But here's the thing ,
I know I'm not alone in this struggle.
I have a feeling you're nodding your head in agreement right now.
It's like there are two sides of YOU constantly fighting when it comes to weight loss...
There's the side that wants to fit into those pre-baby jeans again and feel confident and sexy...
Then there's the side that doesn't want to give up those late-night ice cream binges or wine nights with the girls.
I'm CONSTANTLY battling these two sides, and sometimes it feels like the...
... "I don't want to change" side is winning.
It's like I NEED to bribe myself with rewards to even get motivated.
"If I work out today, I can have a glass of wine tonight!" It's like I'm negotiating with my 4-year-old son.
... FARRRRRKKKK!...
But then there are days when the "I want to change" side wins, and those are the days that make it all worth it.
...I'M ON TOP OF THE WORLD...
The days when I push myself a little harder during my workout and feel the sweat dripping down my face.
The days when I choose a chicken salad instead of fish and chips and actually enjoy it.
The days when I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror... wink and think, "Hey, I'm actually pretty awesome!"
It's a rollercoaster of emotions, this weight loss journey.
But the highs are worth the lows. So, to all the moms out there who are struggling like I am, here are a few simple tips that have helped me:
1: Find an accountability partner.
Whether it's a friend or a spouse, having someone to check in with and keep you motivated can make all the difference.
(If you don't have someone hit me up in the link below, I'll be that person)
2: Don't deprive yourself completely.
It's okay to indulge every now and then, as long as you're making healthy choices most of the time.
I follow the 80/20 rule.
A quick way to do this is to google low-calorie delicious foods and see what you can find (it has to be delicious or I'm not buying it)
3: Find workouts you actually enjoy.
For me, it's a quick weights workout (I don't do long and boring) 3x per week and playing with my son.
I have a client who likes cardio dancing on youtube. She says it's lots of fun and doesn't feel like a chore.
4: Be kind to yourself.
This is a journey, NOT a destination. Celebrate the small victories and don't beat yourself up over the slip-ups.
We're in this together... Let's gooooooo!
