The WINNER of the Name That Character Contest for TRICKY PUCK

💜💜💜💜💜💜

Hello !

First, let me say Happy St. Patrick's Day! 💚 I'm only a very tiny bit Irish on my father's side and that's a sketchy guesstimate, BUT, as the saying goes, everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day! So have a happy upbeat day--even if you're not going to a parade or drinking green beer. 💚

To celebrate, in addition to announcing the winner of the Name That Character Contest, I'm sharing with you an Exclusive Excerpt from my current w.i.p. Tricky Puck.

"Matchmaker? You hired a matchmaker?” I stare at Granny, trying to find a crack in her determination to hold me to my promise. But she’s stalwart in her desire to see me settled down and I was fool enough to tell her I'd give her anything she wanted for her birthday.

I was thinking along the lines of a new car or a trip to Hawaii. But no. She wants me to get fucking engaged.

By Christmas.

I feel a twinge, like someone's tightening a vice clamped on my chest. My right eye twitches.

“Of course." She's not smiling and her voice sounds firm, the same way it did when I was in grade school and she told me I could absolutely not jump off the roof into the pile of leaves no matter how much money I had riding on the bet.

Without wavering in her seriousness, she goes on.

"I wanted to make sure we found the best possible young lady for you. You're a catch, Lincoln. A strapping boy like you and a star hockey player in the NHL. No trouble is too much when it comes to finding your life partner.”

Shit. “Thank you, Granny. That's sweet of you.” There's nothing else I can say right now that'll get me out of the blind date I'm about to be subjected to. So I bend and give granny a hug like I'm going off to war.

Descending the stairs of my family's front porch, I glance back at mom and two of my three my sisters who have their phones out taking pictures like I'm a teen going to prom. They're enjoying my pain, seeing me roped like a wild stallion in my prime--far too young for the altar or anywhere near it.

I refrain from raising my middle finger for their cameras. Dad, who’s been typically stoic and silent, would leap into action and beat my ass—or try to—if I did that in front of my mother and Granny.

As I walk down the steps, my third sister, Rose watches from the bottom with her hands on her hips shaking her head like she’s watching me make the biggest fucking mistake of my life. Or maybe I’m projecting my own premonition.

But hell, if I don’t grant my Granny’s fondest wish, wouldn’t that be an even bigger fucking mistake? She's ninety years old and deserves whatever I can give her after all she's done for me, all she's meant to me.

I look back at her, “Wait up for me. I won’t be too late.” I smirk.

She smiles back at me like she knows something I don't. Fuck. I hate that.

My eye twitches one last time in warning as I get in the taxi and head to Manhattan, and I get the sick feeling that my life is about to crash into the boards and go down in a broken mess.

And there's not a fucking thing I can about it.
