Excerpt #3 from TWO PUCKS!

đź’śđź’śđź’śđź’śđź’śđź’ś

Hello !

I've come to a dilemma in the writing of Two Pucks and maybe you can help me. There's this accidental pregnancy--not a spoiler alert since this trope is in the title and I want you to anticipate it and look forward to it.

The dilemma is that I don't want to do the usual thing where the heroine doesn't want to tell the hero because she doesn't want him to feel obligated to be with her.

I never liked that *conflict* for some reason, find it too difficult to believe or to carry off without the heroine seeming ridiculous. I always thought it was unfair of her and maybe too insecure.

Confession--I sort of did this *conflict*in one of my books (see He Has Santa) but that's where I learned my lesson.

Instead, this time around, the heroine is going for the brass ring because she's madly in love.

So what goes wrong? She gets rejected... or so she thinks...

What do you think?đź’ś

In the meantime, the least I can do is share an EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT from Two Pucks with you today. So I am!

At SQ's House

imageThis week we woke up each morning to a light blanket of snow, followed by a sunny day with bright blue skies in the upper 30s which melted the snow. âžśâžśâžśâžś

Gorgeous weather that I know we can't take for granted.

Every morning these days I go out on my back deck and stretch--in my pajamas no less! I try to stay out for 5-10 minutes, depending on how cold it is, breathe that crisp cold air and move all the old creaky parts around.

Meanwhile, ❤️

My diet/exercise, you ask?

When I'm close to deadline for a book, I don't do a lot of exercise which has been true this week. Only went for one walk all week, but next week should be entirely different...

And my weight went up, but only 1 pound.

On a good/bad note, I haven't eaten any chocolate in 7 weeks. (could that be why I'm missing some energy?)

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT #3

TWO PUCKS

Cherry

“This was a nice surprise. You’ve cemented my new reputation as pussy whipped,” Sabien says seemingly unbothered by the label.

“Isn’t that a bad thing?”

“Normally it would be, but In this case,  me being pussy whipped by my new girlfriend is a good thing. It’s exactly the impression I want people to have—especially my coaches.”

“Are they impressed with your new leaf?”

“Let’s put it this way, Coach Nash remarked that I should probably get treated for whip lash because he’s never seen anyone change direction so fast.” He grins.

My entire body smiles back so hard I grip my seat to stop myself from jumping into his lap. He’s driving and that would be dangerous, right?

Probably inappropriate too, but that’s not getting to me the way it should.

We arrive back at the house and both head to the refrigerator at the same time, laughing.

“You first,” he says.

“I was going to get Lady’s dinner.”

“Oh yeah? What about my dinner?” The pitch of his voice is low, like he has a special tone that signals to my body he’s interested in more than food. It screams sex. Everything about him screams sex, the look in his eyes, his hard body so near mine smelling of exotic soap and man, the heat coming off him in unmistakable waves like he’s going to explode into a ball of fire if I set him off.

Shit.

“What do you want to eat?” I say the words without thinking and even as my face heats up when his eyes go glassy and his hand comes up to cup my face, changing everything, I don’t regret it.

“I think you know the answer to that.”

“You’re not worried that—”

“I don’t feel anything but fucking hot with wanting you, Cherry. I feel like my balls will explode if—”

I don’t wait for another syllable before plastering myself against him, wrapping my arms around him and meeting his mouth in a famished kiss...

MISS CHRISTMAS

imageWill

Contemplating Scarlet on stage, his mind swirled in that space between reality and dreams.

Until the blaring tone of his cell phone made him jump back to wakefulness.

“Damn.” He had no idea who’d be calling at this hour on a weeknight, but it couldn’t be good. Scrambling to snatch the phone from the nightstand, he pressed it on without registering the caller.

“Hello?” A beat of silence pounded his ears and he was about to toss the phone and chalk it up to a crank when her voice interrupted him.

“Hello, Will? It’s Scarlet. You weren’t sleeping, were you?”

Popping bolt upright in bed—all kinds of body parts at full alert now—he fought through the sleep-haze to make sense of her call, to figure out what to say in response.

But he was a man and everything in him responded to her in that elemental man-wanting-a-woman-way, so he rolled with it.

“Well, hello, beautiful. I must be sleeping because I’m listening to the voice of the woman of my dreams.” It was cheesy, but he was rewarded with a full throaty laugh on the other end.

“Aren’t you going to ask me why I’m calling you late at night when we hardly know each other?”

“I figure you’re either testing the number I gave you or you’re hoping for some midnight phone sex.”

Expecting another laugh, when he didn’t get it, his gut tightened and his cock sprang up, paying closer attention.

“Maybe it’s both. What would you say to that, Mr. Regal?” Her voice lowered to a purr and he could picture her, wild dark hair, violet eyes flashing, naked, full breasts glistening. Blood pumped fast and hot through him now, charging up his engines. Trying to hold onto his sanity, he told himself that she was likely teasing. He kept one hand on the phone and the other clutching the bedclothes.

“Why so formal, Scarlet? Call me Will—or better yet, why don’t you call me Lover Boy?”

She chuckled low and soft. “Lover Boy? But I hardly know you.” The tease in her voice prompted a flash of insight. She’d probably googled him and found out all kinds of things since he’d last seen her.

The same way reviewing her contest application had filled in some details about her. But mostly, what held front and center in his mind was the fact that she was hot as hell and too bold for her own good—or his.

“What do you want to know? I can tell you some things.” His stiff cock stared back at him through the opening in his boxers, begging him for attention as he listened for her answer. He closed his eyes and pictured her.

“Are you naked? Do you like naughty women, Lover Boy?”

He half grunted, half laughed. “I think I adore them.” Trying to keep cool, to keep the sex-choked sound from his voice, he went on. “You’re the naughtiest woman I’ve met in a long time. Tell me you’re naked.”

There was a rustling sound in his ear.

“Would it surprise you if I said yes? Does it surprise you that I’m so attracted to you?”

“No and maybe.” He released his grip on the comforter and slowed his breathing. He needed to have a real conversation with her. He shouldn’t have phone sex with one of their pageant contestants. It was inappropriate on so many levels. She was trouble and he ought to at least attempt to find a someone he could have a serious relationship with. Maybe even someone he could settle down with. She was absolutely not his type. He pictured his future wife as someone more conservative.

If there was one thing he was certain of, Scarlet Jones was not Mrs. Regal material. He shouldn’t even be considering a flirtation with her. His cock disagreed, but he forged on.

“I know you know who I am and I wonder if our encounter got you this hot, or whether it’s the fact that I have money.” It had to be said. The elephant in the room every time he contemplated an affair with a woman with no money who knew he had it. He hated it. The splurge of honest cynicism had a cooling effect on his dick. He realized that the pause while he waited for her response was lengthening.

“I think I resent that question, Lover Boy. I thought we had a connection. It may have been marginally lessened by the fact that you have money, but then at least I know you’re from a good family—though I don’t want to marry you. Just . . .” She trailed off, sounding less sure of herself than she had a second ago. The way she’d spat out the word marry had him convinced she reviled the notion. That was a good thing.

“What do you mean the connection was lessened because I have money?” His interest returned to full force. She was a puzzle. Or she was lying—but he didn’t think so.

“I have a rule about men with money. I might be willing to break my rule for you… does that excite you, Will?”

“What rule is that?” His excitement was returning.

“I never get involved with them,” she said.

“What do you mean by involved? What are you looking for, Scarlet?” He loved her name. It suited her. He pictured her in a red silk teddy. He almost didn’t care what her answer was. He would give her whatever she wanted. But he hoped she wanted the same thing as he did.

“Fun.” Her voice sounded forthright, almost defiant, daring him to disbelieve her. “You intrigue me.” Then she paused and, in a more intimate voice, said, “And I just tossed my boyfriend’s ass to the curb, so I’m lonely tonight.”

“Lonely?” The way she’d said it made it seem more real than a flirting exaggeration. “We can’t have that. I don’t mind being the cure for your loneliness.”

She went back to purring laughter and he felt the grin on his face, felt his blood heat up again, had a sudden need to hear her scream his name into the phone as she shuddered in orgasm. He switched the phone from his right to his left hand.

“You don’t mind?” she said. “I’m flattered by your enthusiasm.”

He chuckled, amusement winding with desire, spurring him on. “Tell me where you are, Scarlet. Describe how you look. I’m sure my enthusiasm will perk up.”

“I’m in bed. With you. On top of the covers because I’m hot. I need to take a shower, but not yet. I want to wait for you, wait until I have a reason to cool down, wait until you heat my skin until it burns.”

“What do your nipples look like?”

“You want graphic talk, Lover Boy? I’ll give it to you. I have my right hand on my breast—and you know how large it is, and heavy. I’m lifting it, playing with the weight of it. Stroking the soft skin...

I'd never heard of a real life matchmaker before, but grandma insists on introducing me to one and makes sure it's really real when she tells me I'm her matchmaker's new client...

Normally, I'd do anything for grandma, but this is a big ask.

I'm not ready to settle down. Not even close. I'm only twenty-six and a rising star in the NHL - otherwise known as a chick-magnet.

After all the hard work and focus I've put in to get this far, I've barely begun to have fun. No way am I going along with the matchmaking plan.

Sure.

Fast forward to when my attitude changes real fast after grandma informs me her clock is ticking and her time's almost up.

And her dying wish is to see me settled down with a nice young woman.

Shit.

She goes on about babies, but my mind is spinning with the knowledge that I have no choice. I need to go along with this matchmaking deal for grandma.

Unless I can come up with a way to give her the comfort she wants, the illusion that I'm settled down--without actually settling down...
